  1. Thank you for your input. I guess that raises the question of media software such as JRiver or others. If you wanted to use one to catalogue your files and use it to create lists and the like, are you saying that you would not be able to? Or could you use the software to transmit the file in a format that the device, in this case an oppo 95 would be able to decode and send to a preamp? I ask this bc i am waivering between building my own low budget server and buying a moderately priced Dac or taking the money I would spend and upgrading the components that could be used for different purposes. Again sound quality is the goal but I have slightly better than pedestrian ears.
  2. Hello, I find the information on this site and the users knowledge incredibly useful. I am sorry to say I possess neither the computer savvy or mechanical ability of most of you. With that said perhaps you can clear up a question for me. With the new hardware coming online with network capability, will I be able to send uncompressed music files via ethernet directly to a network compatible device like the Marantz Av 7005 or the upcoming Cary Cinema 12? It seems that they are including ques to allow for a bulk file transfer and subsequent decoding and playback. Would such device mitigate the need for a audio card equipped music server and allow for instance JRiver to send files directly to the onboard DAC? This is probably a dumb question but I risk ridicule for knowledge. Thank you in advance. J.
