  1. How do you properly connect the back plate to the motherboard? Does the metal fittings in the sockets for the ports bent in anyway or do you just press to board up against it? Or are they removed all together? Doing the build tomorrow (hopefully) so any feedback would be appreciated.
  2. Time to build a carbon and looking at the low profile case but I have a PCI e Firewire card that I'll need to use with my WEISS DAC. Since with this case I'll need to mount the firewire card using either a riser card or a cable (if one exists) does anyone have a recommendation on an appropriate solution? Does it matter? Thanks!
  3. These break up when I play them in J River 15 associated with AIF files. I don't want to introduce Quicktime to my environment. Too bad they are not provided as FLACs. Thanks for the chance at free, nice sounding music. Hopefully something to look forward to in the future.
  4. I'm interested in adding Lyrics to my media library. I use JRiver MC 15 for playback and DB Power Amp to rip my music and would be very interested to hear what others have done to add a lyrics file to the tags for their music and then how it is displayed in the J River interface. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can provide.
  5. Thanks. Great reply to give me other options but to also walk me through the set up. I really appreciate it.
  6. What view is the Touch Enabled view of the J River software? I don't see anything that says it is specifically touch enabled. I like the theater view now that I have my library in shape?
  7. Has anyone tried one of the Touch PC's either from HP or another manufacturer as the front end of their system? If so, what software are you using and what other feedback do you have to share? Thinking about using either and HP-600 or Gateway equivalent as the PC front end but I wanted to hear what experiences others might have?
  8. Has anyone tried the J River Media software with a touch screen capable PC? Does it work? Work well? Just checking if this is possible before I look into purchasing a touch capable PC.
  9. Thanks to everyone for their input. How long in the future is this "maybe" touch screen based because that would make it perfect for what I'm trying to do. No other display in the room, dedicated to audio only so that is all this Mac would be used New to iTunes as well. Do I have to continually change the configuration for different resolution or would I set it to the highest possible 24/192 and be able to play any file that I currently have in my library?
  10. I see other Apple products listed on the CASH list but not the iMac - is there a reason for this? Also, can I seamlessly hook this up to my network which is all WINTEL to date. I have absolutely no experience with an Apple in the last 20 years so this will be all new to me but the iMac appears to be the best All-in-One solution out there right now. Would I have to use a different file format for my audio (All WAV right now - ripped before I read the article on building my library correctly.) Do I have to use iTunes? Any reason I wouldn't use iTunes? Going to be hooking this up to a Berkeley using M2Tech Hiface if that influences the matter. Any comments or tips for a possible new Apple user?
  11. I listened to both a couple of days ago. To be honest I was underwhelmed by the SA-50. It sounded really nice on SACD but not as good on CD. It sounded much better as a transport feeding the D-07 so my impression is the D-07 is the better DAC. The SA-50 only supports 16/44 on USB as well so I don't know if that influences your decision. It seems like a very expensive SACD player and transport solution though.
  12. I hope to have a chance to have both DACs available this weekend to do a little comparison though as you can see in another post, I don't have an option to interface the Berkeley with a PC at this point. I'll be trying both with an older Lexicon transport this week and I'll post my thoughts about the two next week.
  13. What solutions are people using for connecting a laptop to the Berkeley Alpha DAC? I have an older lap top with firewire and USB but neither of those will directly connect with the Berkeley. I'd be interested in what solutions others have found and your experiences.
  14. OK, The Linx card seems to be the way to go for desktop applications but how are people attaching to the Berkeley if you have a laptop? Firewire through ? to what? USB to ? to what? S/PDIF if you are lucky enough? I'm trying to get some ideas as I should be able to get my hands on a DAC next week to try in my home system but I have an older laptop with Firewire and USB only. Thanks in advance for any replies. I'm just trying to get some indication as to what most people who are lucky enough to have this DAC are driving it with.
