  1. I am very jealous! I think Art Pepper was at his very best live, from what I can tell from the recordings ;-)
  2. Art Pepper in Leicester on his final UK tour in 1982. I was deep in revision for finals. Captain Beefheart at Birmingham Odeon at around the same time. Sold out. Was just too slow.
  3. Wow! So much knowledge in this thread. Can I ask which version I should have? That is, which is best? I have the 1991 version on my NAS.
  4. That was not lost on me. Back to square one! But at least it should be debugged.
  5. That comparison is great news, Bob. My Young seems to be getting steadily better with use, so maybe yours will surpass the Weiss, given time :-)
  6. I'm looking forward to trying this on mine. Keith told me you were having good results from a battery pack, and I've had excellent results running my MacBooks on battery. Is there a pack that comes with the correct lead for the Young? I've done some Googling, but haven't found what I'm looking for.
  7. Nope. That's not the problem - or is it not the solution? It's the crash that's the problem. The track list is empty, but even if it wasn't AW sits there unresponding until I have to Force Quit.
  8. I have AW 1.09b installed on two Mac laptops, but both copies are crashing as soon as I run them. Just before this started happening, I had to reset my AirPort Extreme, resulting in DHCP assigning different IP addresses from the ones the machines on the network had previously. As my files are on a Drobo attached to another machine (my office iMac) and AW is fine on that one, I suspect AW on the laptops is looking for music files on the wrong IP address. Is there a file I should be editing or deleting somewhere that will restore AW to its previous happiness? Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?
  9. OK. So HDtracks' entry into 24/192 is a little underwhelming for some of us. Where - if anywhere - is the good music that will stretch the bit juggling abilities of my newly-acquired Young DAC?
  10. It took a travel adapter that locks the European 2-pin plug in place, replacing the G4 Mac mini with my current-generation MacBook Air and using AyreWave instead of iTunes. I can now do some listening!
  11. Is that the S/PDIF kitchen sink or the Firewire one? :-) If anything, I should have more bass as my monoblocks should have a bit more heft. But the problem doesn't lie with the amps/speakers because lack of bass is not a problem I have had before. It's something in/around the Young. As we've discussed on Audio Chews, it may be due to power supply problems, specifically to the vagaries of connecting European 2-pin plugs to UK 3-pin sockets. I'm just about to go out and buy some bits and pieces to see if that's the problem.
  12. Bizarre! It's lacking in dynamics (eg kick drums are being prodded gently), weight and tonal balance here. Strangely, I do seem to have extension, but so quiet you feel it rather than hear it.
