Peter, I am no expert and I hope someone else will confirm, but I believe that memory play is using the memory from the RAM, not your hard drive. I would hold off on erasing and reinstalling until this is cleared up for you. How much RAM does your G5 have? -Mike

Jay, leave Itunes open and close only PM. Once PM is closed simply nudge (technical term) the volume slider in Itunes and you should have sound again. I think the little speaker graphic will change as well to let you know that Itunes is back in control.
  3. Just a note, I believe that today is the last day to take advantage of the special intro price. In case it hasn't been pointed out here before I noticed for the first time yesterday that the regular price is now going to be $129. Either demand is higher than expected, or they are putting a few extra dollars to cover the additional ongoing support costs. Regardless, I am very pleased with the sound of the program, and I was happy to invest what I feel is a reasonable price for a software program. I don't understand what my block is with spending $400 to $1000 on a software program to improve the sound of my overall system when I will drop $500 plus on a power cord and not think twice. Strange but true; the mind is a mysterious thing.
  4. I am currently waiting for a new alpha dac, and just purchased a used g5 to convert into a server. I want to wait a few weeks to download a trial of the software until all of my hardware arives and has a chance to break in a bit. Can someone tell me what options Pure Music offers for remote operation? I know remote screen sharing will work form my laptop, but can I choose music from my iphone apple remote?
  5. There are a few 2.0 single core x2 machines showing up that are 2003 and 2004 machines with the pci-x ports and max 8gb memory. They dont have tiger, but I can easily pick up a copy on the cheep. Can anyone comment on the performance of these machines if they are better / worse / similar to the recommended early 2005 pci only units that can handle up to 4gb. The specs on the older machines actually look a little better but I am unsure of if there is any difference in the important components like the power supply. Any input would be appreciated as I would like to build a better machine to use with an alpha dac. Thanks.
  6. So to reiterate, most posts that I have read here recommend the dual 2.0 g5 with Tiger and PCI slots. In my search for used machines I am finding very few dual single core 2.0 machines and several dual 1.8 single core units. For those here that have heard or used both, is there any noticeable difference in sound quality / fan noise / remote screen sharing performance that I should be aware of. I will hold out for a 2.0 if there is any noticeable negative differences on the 1.8.
