  1. I just bought the RME ADI-2 ADC to rip some albums to my Mac Mini. The RME is connected to the Mini via toslink. I'm using Audacity to monitor the rips. When I set the sample rate on the RME to 44.1, the recording seems to go okay. But when set to higher sample rates on the RME, upon playback through Audacity, the tracks are slowed. If I adjust the playback speed in Audacity, the tracks sound normal. I tried setting the sample rate in Audacity to match the sample rate on the RME, but it didn't make a difference. So now I'm stumped. Does anyone know what settings I should make on the RME and Audacity? Is there something very basic I'm missing here? Thanks very much for any guidance! Steve
  2. Hi Ladies and Gentlemen. I have been using the Camera Connection Kit to output music from my iPad to my Peachtree Decco. It worked without a hiccup. After a month or so of non-use, however, it suddenly will not output a signal to the DAC. All audio is output through the iPad's internal speaker. I know that the Decco's USB and DAC work because I tried them on another source. So I'm pretty sure the problem is within the iPad or camera doc. Any ideas what's going on? I have OS 4.2.1 on the iPad. Thanks for any help! Steve
  3. If you have asynchronous USB, then you need drivers. That was definitely the case with my W4S DAC2. You still need to do the audio midi thing to set the output to the DAC, as stated previously.
  4. Thank you guys for your help. Yes, I learned the hard way that RDP doesn't work on the Mac. I'm sure Apple appreciates the extra $12.00 I spent on the app. I went ahead and bought the iTap VNC client, and it works without a hitch. I still have to play around with the screen size settings on the mini, but it looks great so far. There is very little lag on the display.
  5. I'm trying to set up my Mini-based server. I want to control it with my iPad, and I found an app called iTap RDP. So I went ahead and bought it, but I can't get it to work. From what i read, it should control both macs and pcs, but maybe not. Does anyone know? THanks.
  6. I love Sonos, especially the Desktop Controller app. I dig the way it integrates all of my sources (ripped files, internet radio, sirius, rhapsody) into one easy-to-use interface. But I'm not using Sonos as a multi-room system, which is pretty much its reason for being. Also, I would really like to feed high resolution files via asynchronous USB into Rick Cullen's very fine w4s DAC2. This, Sonos can't do. So I'm contemplating a switch to a mac mini as my digital hub. My question is what apps are comparable to the functionality of Sonos? Any ideas are appreciated. Steve
  7. Hi Chris. Any chance you could do an event on the east coast, preferably in NC? <br /> <br /> Steve
  8. I feel your pain. I had a very similar situation. But I used Media Monkey to convert wav files to FLAC and allowed MM to look up the tags from the web. Then I converted the FLAC files to apple lossless with tags (except album art) intact. I couldn't figure out a way to convert from wav to Apple Lossless directly and keep the tags. I'm trying to figure out whether there's an advantage to maintaining the flac files at all now. I'd appreciate other's input. Steve
  9. I received my DAC2 yesterday and am burning it in as we speak. I'm very excited about the asynchronous USB and I hoped to use my iPad as the server via the USB camera adapter. However, as those more knowledgeable than I may have already figured out, the server must have the asynch drivers loaded. Is there any way to accomplish this on an iPad? My guess is 'no'. Steve
  10. Mine is scheduled to ship this Friday. I'm very curious to hear about your experiences with Sonos, since Sonos will be my main source. Rick Cullen indicated that the DAC2's Sabre chip is pretty immune to jitter, which is supposedly the Sonos' weak point. It would be great to learn that a Sonos clock mod is no longer necessary. Steve
  11. I posted this earlier in the General Forum, but this looks like it might be a better place: I got my iPad Camera kit, and I tried to stream Pandora via USB to my Peachtree Decco. However, i could not find a way to direct the audio out to USB; it played through the iPad's speaker. Does anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong?? Thanks! Steve
  12. I just received the USB camera kit for my iPad, and now I want to use it to stream audio content such as Sirius, Pandora, Rhapsody, etc. to my Peachtree Decco. I can't figure out how to direct the audio output of the iPad to the USB. It just plays through the built-in iPad speaker. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?? Thanks! Steve
  13. Hello CAers. I'm new to the group and I sure am glad to find this resource! I have a basic question about sound cards. As used in a server that feeds a stand-alone DAC, what purpose does the sound card accomplish? I thought that the only thing the server did was to extract binary data from the storage medium and send it to the DAC, in which case any sound card with coax or optical out would work fine. But then I read Chris' design for the DIY server and see that he's spec'ing a very nice and expensive card. So what does this card do that a cheapie does not? Does it produce less jitter, better dynamics, soundstage, PRaT:), that we all crave? Thanks for helping me understand! S.
