  1. Thanks for the great review Ted. As another SP Tech Revelation owner, I worry about whether these have enough power to show the SP Techs at their best? (an aside for those unfamiliar with these speakers: they are VERY power hungry and respond to BIG POWER more than any other speaker I have had). Have you paired the Righello with whatever SP Tech speakers you still have on hand?
  2. Thanks Bill. Do let us know if you end up trying the coax (though with 8 ft to travel, I would probably lean towards Toslink too). Nice to see that the Toslink is 24/192. So often optical only goes to 24/96
  3. Hi Bill, Are you able to compare the Toslink and Coax inputs?
  4. Chris, I believe that there were more generations of the Airport Express before the one released in 6/2012. I think that the 2004 802.11g ones that Sterophile measured were replaced by a model often referred to as Gen 2 that came out in 2008, which upgraded to 802.11n. Details here: AirPort Express - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia But regardless, thanks so much for these measurements.
  5. Thanks Paul. Very helpful. I have had the HRT II+ and Pro in the past so this is an excellent frame of reference. Not surprised about the rolloff you mention. IME, it usually takes a pretty robust power supply to really excel at the extremes. As for my handle I am Roscoe The Third (thus roscoeiii, not roscoeii which you wrote; roscoeii is my father). Pretty simple. And no, my son will not be the Fourth. As for the name Roscoe, these days it seems to be more popular for dogs than people. But as a dog lover, I am OK with that.
  6. Paul, What about the Dragonfly led you to prefer it over the HRT? besides its cuteness of course...
  7. C'mon don't knock their output stage and DAC implementation just because Gordon didn't design them. The Halide was a quite nice performer and works super in a number of set-ups. Every audio manufacturer has their own vision (and budget) and we just need to match their products with our own preferences and needs. A good time to be in the market for a DAC indeed.
  8. As Gordon mentioned, he just worked on the Halide's USB implementation. Other work on the DAC chip and analog stage Halide handled or delegated to someone else.
  9. Note that the Gen1 and Gen2 had quite different audio performance. The first generation had great jitter measurements. Not the case with Gen2
  10. A buddy is looking for a sub-$350 DAC. How does this compare to the HRT offerings or other possibilities around this price point?
  11. To revive a thread, anyone else done some tube rolling with the N3? I will eventually be able to report back on the Psvane tubes (12AX7 and EL84), as well as 12AX7s from Telefunken, and hopefully a few others. Just need to find time to A/B them...
  12. If any of you Zodiac Gold owners are still reading, any of you try using the Gold as a preamp with the stock power supply? Not sure I could swing the Voltikus just yet and want to figure out how much that affects performance direct to amp...
  13. And I have just seen the first ad on Audiogon for the non-plus version of the Zodiac. USB is only 24/96 (still async IIRC), and it has a bit fewer connectivity options, but the internals and output stage are the same as the +, with a price that matches the W4S DAC2.
