  1. Yup, that's me at AA; I'm Mercman. I was one of the first to try Gordon's new asynchronous code. It made a great improvement to my new Crimson dac. <br /> <br /> I should probably use Mercman here if Chris doesn't mind.
  2. "Gordon was the first to write code for Async operation that does not require custom drivers."<br /> <br /> "Can't believe that."<br /> <br /> Give me a break. Man, you can really be quite silly. Yes, I think that Gordon was the first to write for native drivers. Please correct me if I'm wrong Peter. But don't tell me you didn't say "Can't believe that".<br /> <br /> In English, that means you feel he wasn't the first.<br /> <br /> Miska,<br /> <br /> dCS released their asynch code after Gordon's release.<br />
  3. Gordon was the first to write Async code for the native drivers. Perhaps Peter can tell us in 100,000 words or more why this isn't true.
  4. Thanks Rick for sharing this experience. I have also found the Audioquest Diamond to be an excellent sounding USB cable.
  5. Select Preferences, then Output. Select your Device Sample Rate. Select the Converter and Quality. Have some joy!
  6. My MacBook Pro does not seem to affect the CPU in battery or pluged into the PS. Darrell is correct to sleep the screen and turn off other battery saving features. I plug my MacBook Pro into a dedicated PS Audio Premier that prevents back contamination to the AC. I think this is the only benefit of battery use if you don't have something as effective as the Premier to block AC contamination from the SMPS.
  7. I have found the bass in Fidelia to be tight and well defined.
  8. Yes, the Denominator (ESS Sabre 32 chip) for the Crimson is the same in the HS so that doesn't have to be changed. I am also looking forward to the HS update. I love this dac!
  9. So many choices now. Amarra, Pure Music, Decibel, Fidelia, and Audirvana to name a few.
  10. There was a site in Europe that sold silver transformers, but they are long gone. Given the amount of wire in a transformer, silver is a better conductor than copper. But I think the silver transformers will soon be history.
  11. Not side by side, but I owned the copper version for 6 months prior to the silver upgrade. The sound difference is very obvious and easy to hear. The sound is more detailed, faster, and with better resolution. The sad thing is that the silver transformers are getting so expensive, that they may not be a practical option. I purchased mine in 2007 with a retail of $7500. I bet that the price is much higher today.
  12. The Crimson is a big improvement over your Cosecant. The Crimson with the Numerator module(ESS Sabre 32) is the unit to aim for. The Silver transformers have become very expensive and Gordon will only quote a price at the time of the order. But a standard Crimson with the Numerator module will be a significant improvement over what you have now. If sound staging is important to you, Pure Music is second to none, especially in the Integer version that will be forthcoming and supports this dac.
  13. The new 15 and 17 MacBook Pro video will use the integrated Intel video if large graphic load is not demanded. Sleep the screen, and video "noise" is limited. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor — now included across the MacBook Pro lineup — handles the things you do every day. It encodes video quickly, making HD video calls with FaceTime possible. And it decodes efficiently, so you get long playback time for DVDs and iTunes movies. For graphics-intensive applications, the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models automatically switch to new high-performance AMD Radeon graphics processors. With up to 3x the performance of the previous models,3 they let you see more frames per second in 3D games, or work on HD video projects with more speed and responsiveness than before. The RFI is lower with laptops due to Federal regulations.
  14. I really like the Fidelia remote. The most responsive of any I have used.
  15. "I bet someone is designing an audiophile Thunderbolt cable right now." I hope its solid silver wire
