  1. Been listening to my set up with ME without Ayre. I don't missed a bit for the ayre I guess i could offload it for other toys...
  2. Then it would take 20 rimes the price for a marginal improvement of sound...
  3. I started with macbook (unibody white) 3.5mm output direct to my int amp. Then was introduced to usb dac by my friends and dis not look back again...
  4. Downloaded audirvana trail as advised. There are some slight difference... had darker background and more weighted sound while Ayre sounded more airy and lighter weight. In terms of clarity and detail, both are the same. This makes the ME a hell of a dac for 10 time lesser than Ayre.
  5. Firedog, I had both the ME and QB9 hook up to the same amp for 2 weeks and doing AB listening. Audiojim, the speakers cost around $13k. Any one else had the same experience? Just wanted to see if there is anything wrong in my setup or ME is so close to QB9. May be Jim Smith or Chris can share?
  6. Recently, I bought the new Meridian Explorer after reading some positive comments about this portable DAC. The initial intent was to use this small portable size DAC as a secondary rig in my bedroom due to space constraints. Having a Ayre QB-9, I conducted a A/B test on this DAC to see how far off it is from QB-9. To my surprise, it sounded so close to my QB-9. I repeatedly ask my wife to it without telling her which DAC I'm using and she too could not tell the difference. Am I going deaf due to aging or the Explorer is so good to be true? 7. Hi there. I'm looking for advice on Wavelength Proton DAC. What is the closest match to this DAC? I'm living in Asia and there isn't any retailer for Wavelength products. Hence, I would need to rely on end-user feedback. I used to own Benchmark DAC1-USB DAC and was hoping the Proton to come close to performance. Any feedbacks are most welcome. Thx! OP18087
