1. Hi All. I would like to have a device at my bedside that could receive music files up to 96/24 resolution via my home WiFi network. SPDIF or analog output would be ok. I would love to use a Squeezebox but they are no longer made. Suggestions? Thanks
 2. Anyone know if jRemote will allow audio output from an ipad air via a camera connection cable plugged into the lightening socket? I would like to output to a USB DAC. Can I output 96/24 172/24 ? Thanks!
 3. Interesting debate. I ripped some tracks that I know well as WAV and FLAC (quality 8) using DBpoweramp. Went back and forth for over an hour. I Could hear no difference between WAC and FLAC in my system. Windows 7 silent fanless PC > jRiver MC16 WASAPI Event >Ayre QB9 >Pass X1 Preamp >Blue Circle BC204 amp >Harbeth SHL-5 (All Nordost Frey cables). System is used in balanced configuration from source to power amp As Ivor Tiffenbrun (founder on Linn) said "If you haven't heard it, you don't have an opinion" Now I have an opinion Valvefan
 4. Is there any difference between playing files from an SSD vs playing files from memory (as in Jriver media centre)?

Valvefan

5. Hi Qwest,

Who makes a PCI to PCIe adaptor? My MB has only a PCIe slot. Can I use the SoTM USB card?

Valvefan
 6. Thanks Chris. I'll try the Thesycon USB Class Driver Accoring to the people at jriver, ASIO4ALL is really just Kernal Streaming when used in Media Center. Valvefan
 7. Hi Chris, I read your setup advice. Thanks. It was useful and confirmed the directions I followed from the Ayre QB-9 website. Can you tell me more about the ThesylonUSB driver? I see that it is used in the Wavelength SPDIF-USB converter. Is the use of the Thesylon driver similar to using ASIO4ALL in that it will appear in MC15 as an "audio device"? Is the potential for irreversible harm to my setup if I install the driver? (ie can it be uninstalled like any other software?) Thanks Valvefan
 8. OK I'll Try that. Thanks Valvefan
 9. Hi All, I have had problems getting jRiver MC15 to work with WASAPI in Windows 7. My USB DAC is an Ayre QB-9. I was able to get ASIO4ALL working so I think there is no hardware issue. The files are on a NAS connected to the PC by cable. The NAS is mapped to the PC as a local drive. Can anyone offer advice on configuring Win7 and MC15 to make WASAPI work? Thanks Valvefan
 10. Hi Chris,

I'm thinking about building a C.A.P.S. and using a separate Win7 PC in another room as a NAS. I could build a barebones PC with big internal HDDs. Mechanical fan and drive noise on the "storage computer" would be unimportant because the listening room is far away. Connection would be by ethernet cable.

Is this feasible? practical? less expensive than commercial NAS devices?

Thanks

Valvefan
 11. Hi Chris,

Thanks for the awesome article on the C.A.P.S.

I'm using a windows laptop and external HD as a sever. the system is pretty quiet but not silent.

I've never set up a NAS before. Can Vista or Windows 7 be set up to connect directly to a NAS via wired ethernet or is a router required. I might be able to put a NAS in another room to reduce the HD noise. Can jRiver MC14 easily find my music library via the LAN connection?

Thanks for the help

Valvefan

External HD>eSATA >Vista laptop>jRiver MC14>USB>Ayre QB9>Pass Labs X- preamp>Blue Circle BC 204 amp>Cabasse Farella 401 speakers

12. I have a question for the engineer/tech people out there. I was using jRiver MC13 with ASIO4ALL. The path was USB out to an Ayre QB9 then balanced out to a preamp then balanced out to a power amp. It sounded wrong until I reversed the red and black speaker cables and then the soundstage got wider and the high frequencies became less strident. I recently installed MC14 and began using WASAPI. The sound was wrong again until I returned the cables back to the normal red to red and black to black arrangement. My question is; can software changes alter or invert the phase of the audio signal? I'm looking forward to hearing from you Thanks Valvefan (Pete)
 13. Hi Gordon, I am using an asynchronous USB DAC (Ayre) and I use a USB external HDD for my music files. I am not aware of any problem. The system seems quite stable. Can you please describe what problems you predict? How would I know if there was a problem? Thanks Valvefan Vista laptop
