  1. Oh ok, but maybe you're assuming I'm slower than I am which is fair enough. What I am already connecting it with (because my ADMs turned up yesterday) is one of these :- http://maudio.co.uk/products/en_gb/CO2.html I am somewhat uncertain about how to get bit perfect optical audio out. I only have some sort of realtek Audio software installed on the system. Can't seem to get that to output any sound. Don't seem to have any generic windows audio device installed. Anyhaows, all works through HiFace/CO2 and am now able to use either WASAPI or ASIO. Busy weekend ahead listening ;-) Lew
  2. Hi guys and thanks for the response. I have JR MC15 working fine with the HiFace using Asio4All. When I select WASAPI in JR MC Audio Output, I get no sound. I put this down (wrongly or rightly) to the HiFace driver not working for WASAPI. What I'm interested in knowing is will the digital(optical) output from my PC need some sort of interface (HiFace) to be able to send different bit depth files to the ADM 91.1s' Sorry if I'm a bit slow on this one All help as ever, gratefully accepted. Lew
  3. Hi all, was wondering if anybody can straighten my head regarding modifying my system? My intention is to buy some ADM 9.1s but I have some concerns how I integrate/connect them with my present 'front end' The ADM's as I understand, have 2 optical inputs and 1 analogue. I am running a little ASUS Eee Box EB1501(which incidentally, I am very impressed with as a small silent CAPS)with Windows 7, J River MC (15) and a M2Tech HiFace. I have installed Asio4All and believe I am enjoying my music(16/24bit)without the dreaded Kmixer resampling and perverting my files. I have tried to get the HiFace working with WASAPI but to no avail yet. I beleive Mario is still working on W7 Drivers that will allow us to use WASAPI. What I need clarification over is, if I remove the HiFace and just use the optical out of the back of the Asus, will I still be getting a bitperfect out under J River/Asio4Aall? I'm presuming I will and also presuming in my present setup the Hiface is being used as a device to automatically process different bit depth files before they hit the DAC. Hope somebody can inform me soon as I was hoping to order up the ADM's in time to get before weekend.(optimistic ;-) ) Warm regards to y'all, Lew
  4. I guess I could use Foobar. I was rather hoping to settle on one interface that looked and felt great(Initially bought MM3 but much prefer JRMC but quite a bit more expensive) For the purpose of getting WASAPI output from a player I'l take a look later. Still waiting of Marco from M2Tech coming up with an answer. Not wanting to sound ungrateful but many people will have bought the product because of it's advertised compatability with WASAPI, only to spend hours struggling. It should just work out of the box. I wouldn't say I was any kind of expert but I'm starting to find my way round a bit now and feel I've done all that should be required of me to get this device installed and working as it should be. In all fairness to Marco, he is happy to take emails and is responding quite promptly so I'm hopefull of a resolution. Regards, Lewis
  5. Hi msb and thanks for the reply. I have as ASUS Eeeebox EB1501 that shipped 1 month ago with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I have not done more than one update but I cannot report the build status at this point(at work) can do later if you believe it to be important. The error message is as an earlier post but this is not complete but a faithful word by word copy of what I thought was pertinent, I quote, ""Playback could not be started on the output 'Windows Audio Output API(WAAPI)' using the format '96000 Hz, 24 bits per sample 2 chanels."" It dispays the same message with 16 bit but just changes it description. then says ""This output format may not be supported by your hardware. You can use DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format'."" I was using JRMC evaluation version, but before trying the drivers Marco sent, I bit the bullet and purchased the full version. As mentioned the HiFace shows fine in windows and using ASIO4ALL in JRMC everything is working fine. I can open and alter settings in the ASIO4ALL ui that displays in the system tray when music is playing. I can select WASAPI in Output Mode in JRMC then select the HiFace in Output Settings Mode Tab. But when I select a piece of music to play I get the above error response. Thought peeps? Kind regards, Lew ;-)
  6. Thankyou both Chuck and Leo, I received the Driver and uninstalled and reinstalled. Unfortunately, I get the same Error messages as my previoius post. I am curious however about what Leo said but do not fully understand. "After reinstalling the driver (140), you must reconfigure the windows." "Enable the playback component outputs in hiface 24/192." (This bit specifically) "In JR, you must enable the resampler also 24/192." (Also this bit, why would we want to enable resampling?, surely we want to avoid any further processing of the signal) Could you clarify your suggestion please Leo? Also if Marco is still perusing this thread, "HELP, PLEASE" Cheers y'all, Lew
  7. Well after a busy weekend with little enough time to spit, I got round to unzipping and installing the driver that Marco sent me. I ran the setup32.exe as my OS is W7 Home premium which I presume is 32bit. Unfortunately I get the exact same message as before. I re-emailed Marco in the hope he can send me a driver that gets this little face unit working with WASAPI. Failing that, if Chuck would kindly oblige again to [email protected] That would be awesome. Kind regards, Lewis
  8. Hi Chuck and thankyou for the advice regarding renaming. My brother who is a little more IT savvy than me was knocking about and I asked him and he said exact same thing. Did it and it is now on my usb stick waiting to be run on my Eee Box at home. Cheers, Lewis
  9. Wow, looks like the can of worms is truly open. I quote an email or two from Marco at M2Tech " Hello Lewis, I know that WASAPI is a bit difficult to use. But it may be a problem with our driver. Please try the attached beta which is a bit older than the driver you've installed but is said by some customer to work better with WASAPI. Cheers, Marco " AND "Hi Lewis, please apologize for answering so late: we have quite a lot of hiFaces around, now, and we're receiving a lot of e-mails... The file which I sent you is a zip which contains a beta driver which is said by many to work even better than the one presently released on the website. You should first manually uninstall any hiFace driver you have in your PC and then open the zip and launch setup32.exe or setup64.exe, depending on your OS (is it a 32 bit-or a 64-bit version?). Thenk you should be able to use WASAPI and JRiver. Cheers, Marco" The file he sent me can't be opened, it is either corrupt or incomplete or as his suggestion some Antivirus has had some effect on it. He asked me for another email adress and I'm hoping he's resending. Will let you all know. Just have to say big thankyou to all who have offered help and advice and also those who are struggling on this new journey, keep trying. ;-) Kind regards, Lew
  10. Hi guys and thanks for the response. I have now installed ASIO4ALL as suggested and this works fine. I will check the driver version for the Hiface tonight when I'm home from work. A question still remains though. Even with Asio4all, am I getting a bit perfect through put or is the OS(W7) getting it's hands on my lovely Flacs. If indeed it should work with the Hiface driver and isn't, can anybody run me through the config again. Like I said, I did follow Chris' recommendations already. Many thanks, Lew
  11. Well here I am again throwing my ignorance at your pearly gates of ca expertise. After settling down quite nicely with MM3 and replacing the M-Audio Transit with a Hiface, I thought I'd look at JRMC on the strength of the new Header on the homepage here at CA. I wasn't entirely happy with some things with MM3 like navigating the interface and the handling of gapless etc, except that latter part is more due to my ignorance I fear. I did however getting it working fine with Steve Monks KS plugin. Whimsically, I downloaded the 'Trial' version of JRMC. Initially and strangelly for I know not why, I decided to tinker with the interface and pointed it at my Library even before having a listen. Then went through Chris' "Setup" recommendation. Selected a track, hit play and nothing. The player is paying the track but there is no audio reaching my ears. My settings are all as Chris suggested except I made my Hiface the default device in windows(W 7) as my DAC does not display sampling frequency so will not inform me as to the sampling frequency state of the file it is handling. I have selected WASAPI but when I hit play I get an error message saying something about "Playback could not be started on the output 'Windows Audio Output API(WAAPI)' using the format '96000 Hz, 24 bits per sample 2 chanels.' It dispays the same message with 16 bit but just changes it description. Then says 'This output format may not be supported by your hardware. You can use DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format'. It displays the same message when I select ASIO as the output mode. However, when I select 'DirectSound' I am able to hear music. The same is true when I select 'Wav out' When either of these 2 options are selected the Hiface appears in the 'Output Mode' settings Device drop down. With ASIO selected only the M-Audio device appears. With 'WASAPI' selected, the M2 Hiface appears. But when I ok that and then try and play a track be it 16 bit or 24 bit I get the above error message. So I guess I have a few queries for anybody(Chris??) with experience of JRMC 14, W7, M2Tech Hiface. Is it true to say that only with WASAPI selected will I be gettig 'bitperfect'? What is happening when the other 2 outputs are being used, is there resampling going on? Is the limitation I'm experiencing as a resut of me using the "Trial version"? Is the Hiface incompatible with WASAPI/JRMC? Do I need asio4all ? Am I going mad? Mst admit that I like the GUI of JRMC. Maybe more than MM3(which I had no hesitation in buying). Will be happy to purchase JRMC if I'm sure it is delivering on the quality audio front. All help and thoughts, as ever are massively appreciated. Regards, Lew

    M2Tech

Hi there all, I was wondering if anyone can confirm if the M2Tech will automatically detect and pass through unscathed, files of different sample rates. I am presently using a M-Audio Transit but John (in a different post) suggests it won't and will need manually setting to the matching frequency rate every time my player is asked to play a different file. ie Playlist with 16bit 44.1 and 24 bit 96 playing consecutively. Thoughts advise and help always gratefully received. Regards, Lew
  13. Hi John, I see what you mean in as much as setting the M-Audio to 24bit and let it "pad". When you say "M-Audio will bugger up the sound unless you change it's setting in control panel first." Are you suggesting changing the settings in the M-Audio control panel? if not, which? Would creating seperate playlists by keeping files of the same sampling frequency together. ie. don't mix sampling frequency files in the same playlist but if I want to listen to those files, manually change the settings first? Thanks for your patience, cheers, Lew
  14. Hi John and thanks for the response. I have now downloaded a 24 bit and 16 bit version of William Orbit "My Oracle Lives Uptown" from Linns website. An acceptable cost for a) seeing how this setup handles different res files concurrently(playlist) and b) if my ears can differentiate. I'm half sure that the ui for the Transit does have an option to check which files it can handle(support). I recall seeing two check buttons 16bit and 24bit in the output options. I'm at work at the mo but will have a play about tonight and report back. Cheers, Lew
  15. Well, the system is up, running and so far, reliable and fun to use. As for sound quality, I believe it sounds at least as good as the Cyrus CD6SE cd player it replaced. However, I do have a query and it is based on what John mentioned in a post further up the page. Quote :- "Just be aware that the M-Audio Transit will not be bit-perfect if/when the sample rate of your music changes. The device needs to be reset in those cases. If all of your music is sampled at 44.1khz - not a problem." I have posted a similar query in the "DAC Forum" and had the suggestion that the M2Tech would automatically sense and handle a file res change. However I spoke to Keith at the UK dealer and he suggests it doesn't do that and as far as he knows, Windows can do this. I am somewhat confused. I thought that by installing and using the M-Audio interface I had cut windows audio handling out of the process. So am I supposed to change settings in the M-Audio interface. Surely this shouldn't be necessary if when playing playlist songs(files) changes from 16 bit to 24 bit? Please help my confused state. I guess some of my confusion is born from inexperience. Hope I have made myself clear, sorry if not, happy to clarify my requirements. Regards, Lew
