1. Hi Regnad, I'm currently in the same process of matching a Dynavector XX-2 with a Mic-Preamp for digital playback purposes via PureVinyl. Rob from Channel D is of excellent help and he provided me with a link to a website with an Online Calculator: URL=http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-paralresist.htm You can enter the input impedance of your pre in the first data field and the desired catridge load in the third one (for Dynavector XX-2 in forums the majority of users point rather towards 50 Ohm instead of high values). The middle datafield is then calculated and gives you the data for the resistor to be used between turntable (RCA or XLR) and Pre-Input. Hope this helps... Cheers Christian
2. I have tested with a fairly sensitive checking device and it gave me no clear orientation for the AQVOX, which means that there is no need to worry about the orientation. Generally I measure that with the smaller stepdowns, there is no clear orientation. It's more the bigger gear with the larger transformers, where there is a very clear difference with orientation. Hope this helps... Cheers Christian
3. ...just checked this again...so I guess everybody has to try in his own environment whether it works or not. If it did work for me, I would have saved the money for the AQVOX regulator in combination with the Acoustic Revive cable. But anyway...it sounds fantastic the way it is now, and that's all that matters :-) Cheers Christian
4. Dear Forrest, I understood the concept of separating the power leg and data leg in audiophile USB cable. To me the Acoustic Revive approach was the most consequent one (2 separate USB plugs, one power and one data with 2 separate cables just meeting in the standard USB printer port plug on the other end of the cable > Y-cable). It is very expensive but I tried againt good audiophile grade standard cable (AQVOX USB cable) and found the Acoustic Revive superior. I then tried to get rid of the one power leg and use the AQVOX regulator unit now for this (it is better than their cable IMHO). Cheers Christian
5. Dear Forrest, I am interested of further improving the EVO which I already like a lot on battery power. How does an external clock work ? Do you simply plug it into the EVO or does it have to connect to the DAC as well ? As you seem to be an engineer (me not), can one simpy buy an external clock and just plug and play ? Thanks for some expert advice :-) Cheers Christian
6. Dear Elp, that was my original understanding also...Therefore I thought I would simply not use the separate power leg of the Acoustic Revive USB cable which would have saved me one USB port of the Macbook also. However, under these conditions, the EVO produced clicks and outages from time to time during the listening sessions, which made me think that he cannot do correctly without any UBS power input despite the main battery power. A direct comparison between using both USB ports (i.e. one power line and the other data line)and just data line in connection with AQVOX showed clearly that the latter is superior soundwise even when the Macbook is powered from battery. This shows to me how congested the inner electric environment of a PC is. I am happy with this kind of solution as it is really not expensive. Cheers Christian
7. Hi, I use the Hiface Evo in combination with Berkeley Alpha DAC. To me the USB>SPDIF conversion is acoustically extremely crucial and deserves the best environmental conditions possible. I started eary with auditioning various power supplies for the EVO and easily determined battery as superior. Next I experimented with USB cables isolating the power line and picked the Acoustic Revive cable with 2 separate lines as best choice. Then I started to experiment with leaving the power leg unconnected to my MAC BOOK as the EVO had it's own battery power. However that produced some clicks and outages and I thought that still some USB power is required to make EVO work properly. Then I found the AQVOX USB power supply and tested it with marvellous results, and it's quite cheap. I can fully recommend it ! Cheers Christian
8. Dear Barry, thanks a lot for this practical advice...I have some KJ Discs (Organ works), which I will use. After some research I think I also shall be using some your own excellent productions. Do you also ship to Germany ? Cheers Christian
9. Hi Chris,

thanks so much for your advice. That sounds great! I will test this as it will save a lot of data shuffling efforts.

Thanks again for running this wonderful site !
Cheers
Christian
10. Dear Barry, thanks...very wise comment after all this "battle of experts"... Testing is exactly what I will do...Do you have any recommendation what kind of signal is the best to test with ? Would it be some music with "attack" like drums or rather deep bass from an organ or just a plain sinus sweep signal ? Thanks again Christian
11. Dear All,

currently I'm using an external HDD with my iTunes Library on my mac mini. I'd love to use a NAS but have no ethernet cabeling in the listening room. Would it be possible to have the mac mini accessing a NAS via WLAN ? Would that deteriorate sound quality ?

Thanks for commenting on that technical option...

Cheers
Christian
12. Dear Sanjay, thanks for your advice! I appreciate your professional expertise! Do I get it right, that I would have to buy a decent hifi cable cut off the eg. spades on one end and solder a high quality Speakon connector to the cable ? Is there no "easy" way out ? Thanks for some clarification... Cheers Christian
13. Dear All, thank you for this wonderful treasure of information about subwoofers. I learned a lot from this. One vital issue for me is still unresolved though: What is the best position for two subs in a standard stereo triangle listening situation for audiophile purposes ? A. Close to the main speakers (between the speakers) B. Close to the main speakers (outside the speakers) C. Near the main speakers (eg. behind) D. Directly in front of the main speakers E. Anywhere in equal distance to the listener compared to the mains (because of timing) D. Somewhere else ? Thanks a lot for some concrete advice as I got slightly confused by the scientific explanations. Cheers Christian
14. Dear All, I have just ordered two Sub's to supplement my main speakers and for high level input they just offer a Speakon socket. They also supply a Speakon cable with "naked" ends to connect to the Amp. As my main speakers are wired with a high quality "audiophile grade" cable, I don't want the Sub to run on cheap wire. I would want to use a Hifi cable with is supplied with either spades or pins. How do I get this into the Speakon socket. I haven't found any adapter on the internet. How do other tackle this ? Thanks for sharing some advice :-) Cheers Christian
15. Hi Chris, Thank you very much and apologies that I did not look it up really properly. Cheers Christian
