  1. The DAC1 used the AD1853 and upsampled all incoming signals to 110 Khz. That was where the DAC chip measured the best so that was the upsampling frequency Benchmark went with. I don't think they have changed philosophies at all. They went with the parts they felt measured the best at the time, and now have gone with the ESS9018 that currently measures the best with 8 dacs on the chip (4 per channel). The DAC1 was ahead of the curve with many features still not available on lesser DAC's and the DAC2 is even more feature rich. It's remarkable how much functionality they've crammed into such a small box.
