  1. I have to agree with Francis on the MBL room. It was my favourite of the day. Second favourite was the Soulution playing on Eventus Audio speakers. I did not get to join all the rooms - eg the Dynaudio room was overfilled and I could not get in (Friday around 1PM). I went at lunch time but it seems there are many other audiophiles that played hookey from work or took the day off or just unemployed. Lots of computer front ends but thy ended up not being used as source when I was there. Would have been nice to listen to the Jeff Rowland DAC.
  2. Arcam, MF, Luxman - these companies are mid-fi at best and I would probably class them as above average consumer brands, along with NAD, Rotel, Creek, Densen, Sim Audio and the like. This is not saying that they don't produce top notch stuff (ie MF has a Titan line of amps that are great and SimAudio produces some of the best amps out there) but they all produce low price level goods so are more allrounder companies and not truly the audiophile level the OP was talking about. Throw out companies like B&W, Focal, PSB, Paradigm and Dynaudio for speakers since these have full line products. I would think audiophile companies would be limited to the likes of Audio Research, dcs, Burmeister, Goldmund, CJ, Ayre, Boulder, Pass Labs, Spectral, MacIntosh, DarTZeel, Halcro, Wilson, VTL, Meridien, Magico etc. Left out Levinson and Lexicon on purpose by the way.
  3. It's been mentioned here that certain USB plugs are better for connection to audio devices. I'm glad it worked out fine. Personally, I doubt the validity of break in required for wires.
  4. Playing CD from computer vs playing CD from CDP - seems like it could be a transport issue - the CDP's transport is better than the computer's, it looks like. Playing files from PC vs CDP - have you tried to take the volume out of the equation - ie set the volume to max on the PC and control the volume on the amp.
  5. I bought a pair of HD228 and find the sound somewhat muddy. I was after some cans with a lot of bass and these did not deliver the fast, dynamic bass that I was after. I've heard the PX-200II might be a better bet. But I still prefer the ear buds CX400. Guess I am a fan of Sennheiser.
  6. A good rule of thumb is 500mb for a standard CD using AIFF or 2 CDs per Gig. For Apple Lossless 40% less memory usage.
  7. I guess we also have to distinguish between wired (ethernet) and wireless (wi-fi) networks. Not sure how much RFI are introduced in wireless networks and how it affects sound. For those that live in apartments these days tough luck.
