  1. The upgrade did in fact require returning the unit to the factory, and from what I can tell there are no other differences in performance besides the greatly improved stability with AEXpress.
  2. Success! I got my Nova back today from Signal Path. I hooked up the Airport Express about 15 minutes ago via the Optical 2 port and since I hit the space bar I've been listening to my laptop without a single dropout. I am really thrilled. Thanks again to everyone on this board for pitching in ideas. Bitchin!
  3. Hey guys, I got some help from David Richardson at Signal Path. We emailed back and forth a few times, then I sent him my Nova for a firmware update. The working theory is that I had an early-in-the-production-run unit which needed a firmware update to help its compatibility with the newer Airport Express. I will be getting my amp back next week. Richardson was really nice and very responsive, so whether this works or not I have to give a company like this credit for being so attentive to its users. I'll let you all know.
  4. Hey guys, So input two does not solve the problem, but plugging the Nova directly into the computer yields rock solid playback. So now I'm back to the idea that it's a networking issue. It seems counterintuitive to me that analogue could play fine and optical could play with dropouts, but that's what's happening. My signal chain includes an Airport Extreme as well, so really the signal path is laptop>Airport Extreme>Airport Express>Nova. I tried taking the Airport Extreme out of the equation and going directly from laptop to Airport Express. This didn't solve the problem either, but I didn't turn the Airport Extreme off, I just unplugged it from the cable modem, plugged the Express into the cable modem, then created a new network with only the Express. I should go one step further and try all of the above, but with the Airport Extreme fully powered down, as they are all in the same (large) room. I'll let you guys know how that goes.
  5. I was using the mini toslink converter, then I bought a lifatec 2m toslink mini to toslink cable (no adapter). I was certain that this would help, but the problem is the same.
  6. Hey Chris, Thanks for responding. It's heartening to hear that many others are having success with this. I tried an ethernet/non-wireless setup in the past and I still had dropouts. I just tried it again with the new Airport I got from Apple yesterday and the dropouts are the same. I am using Itunes 9.0.2.
  7. I got the replacement Airport Express yesterday from the Apple store, so I believe it's the N version. I have not heard about the upgrade. Is there a link to explain this? Thanks for the help. Blieden
  8. My computer is across the room from my entertainment center, so I'm using my apple Airport Express to send audio into my Nova. I would love to send my audio through the Express's optical output, but I cannot get this to play without continuous dropouts. There are lots of threads about dropouts on the Apple discussion forums, so for a while I assumed it was a network problem, until I plugged the Airport Express into the Nova via the Express's analogue output. Suddenly the whole system was playing perfectly, with not a single dropout. So then it must have something to do with the optical path going from Express to Nova. I have bought 3 different optical cables, and swapped out my Airport Express for a new one at the Apple Store. Nothing has worked. I still can't get the optical to play continuously while the analogue signal is perfect. Is there is some issue of compatibility between the Nova and the Airport Express optical output. And if so, is there a Nova firmware fix that could remedy this? Best, Michael Blieden
