  1. Most of my collection is also classical and have I always been frustrated with iTunes. I think this is almost a universal complaint among Classical music fans. IMO, iTunes 11 is a step back wards in this regard not least because you can't list albums with cover art. (Cover Flow never did anything for me). I've also noticed that iTunes 11 seems to have restricted the ability of the iPad Remote application to control iTunes. For instance, if you have a genre selected on your desk top, the remote will only allow you to play items in that genre even though it shows the whole library. When you try to play something in another genre you get the message "The song xyz could be be played because the original file could not be found." This problem also occurs in my alternate remote application called "ytracks" so I think it's an iTunes bug, rather than a remote app bug. This bug also exists in the lastest revision 11.0.1. The work around is to go to your desk top and select "all genres." The same problem occurs if you select a specific composer or artist. You can only access the tracks that match the particular composer or artist selected on your desktop. Obviously, a remote control isn't doing its job if it requires you to go back to your desk top to do it. I wonder if others have others been frustrated by this problem? Paugust
  2. Thanks all for your helpful input. I downloaded Max and will try it today.
  3. Dumb question. I want to download a 96/24 file from HDtracks and convert it to aiff so I can play it on iTunes from my MAC mini. HDtracks has a link to a video that shows how to do this. The link brings me to this site, but says the video has been moved. I can't find out where. Can someone tell me if the video still exist, is still relevant, and, if so, where to find it? If it's not available, what's the best way to do the conversion? Thanks for any help.
  4. Fabrice, Great to hear you still have plans to move forward. Will be glad to vote on future features as soon as I see the list. Good luck with the "war"!
  5. Haven't heard anything about possible future updates to yTrack since 12-3-10. Is there still,(I hope) plans for future enhancements? Max? Fabrice? Paugust
  6. Glad to hear a solution is already on the way. Being forced to use Apple's Remote reminds me just how inadequate it is. Also glad to hear you, Max, are on the development team and that future enhancements are still in the works. Can't wait to see the fruits of your collaboration.
  7. I just installed the latest verson of the iPad software from Apple and now yTracks does not work! Does anyone else have this problem? Apples Remot app does still work.
  8. Thanks to gcorley and Chris for the help. I'm wondering why HDTracks didn't offer a format that would work on iTunes. The only option offered was FLAC. I intend to contact them about that. By the way, will this conversion compromise quality?
  9. Just loaded my first hi res,(88-24, FLAC),album from HDTracks. The down load worked and it's sitting in a folder on my Mac-Mini desk top. How do I get iTunes to see it. I've tried to add it to library and nothing happens. (I did change the midi to 88). Length is set to 24. I'm sure it's simple, but I can't figure it out.
  10. Fabrice, For some reason some of your earlier responses on my favorite topic, (genre), didn't display. I now see that you have responded to my earlier input favorably. Sorry for repeating myself, but hopefully my last post was clearer on the subject and might be of interest to any new programmers that might be interested in participating in your open source plan.
  11. Fabrice, I am glad you've decided to stick with it, and if using the open source approach give others the chance to contribute, it can only be a good thing. As you know, I've campaigned for the addition of genre. But, I was very disappointed in the way it was implemented in Apple's new Remote. It works ok for genres that are artist centered such as jazz, pop, folk, etc. because when you select a genre, it displays the result as an artist list. It works poorly for the classical genre because classical collections are organised either by Composer or Album. Classical fans don't generally say, "Gee, I want to listen to something by conductor Fritz Reiner. They say, I want to listen to a particular piece by Stauss, or Beethoven, or Mahler. Artist is important, (especially if there's a soloist), but it is usually of secondary importance. Genre, therefore, should be a top level selection. After I select a genre, then I want to decide if I want to list the library by album, composer, artist or song. For jazz, pop and folk, the last two are most likely what I would choose, but for classical, the first two, (and sometimes the third), is what I would choose. I can do this when I search for music using iTunes on my Mac Mini, because I have "smart playlists" organised by genre. I want to be able to do this on my iPad too. If Version 2.0 provides this, I will be happy and I bet many others will too. The only other features I would like to see is Search and Radio, but the most important is genre. Anyway, good luck to you and thank you for your work, so far. paugust
  12. "So does anyone out there actually catalogue their collection by album title?" Yes, I do. But in list mode, the way Fabrice shows it with full Album title info. Cover flow to me is useless. Matrix view, the way it's show on Apple's Remote, is just pretty pictures with no useful function. I do like the search function in Remote, however. By the way, what's folder view? Paugust
  13. Fabrice, I am with the others that hope you will continue your development. I was excited to see genre, (yes I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here), and composer, in the new Remote App, but then disappointed to see that selecting genre only listed albums in artist order, not album title order. This is useless to me. I'm sure many others would hope to see an app that would allow segregating libraries by genre and the use the other categories, (Album,Artist, composer, track, etc), as sub categories. It makes so much sense, to me at least. I have not seen anyone else on this forum make any comment about this and maybe that means I'm the Lone Ranger. All I can say is that if you provide the feature, I'll buy it and pay any reasonable price. But, either way, thank you for your efforts so far and good luck to you. paugust
  14. Maybe, instead of including the three options on the playlists, it would be easier to include a drop down menu, (labeled "genre") in the music library that would display all the genre categories in the library. When the desired category was selected, only those albums, would be displayed. This may even make it unnecessary to have a separate playlist for each genre. Would something like this be doable and maybe require less code changes? Just a thought. paugust.
