  1. Gimell Records has high quality downloads in WMA format. http://www.gimell.com/catalogue.aspx?filter=Studio+Master
  2. Hello One and a half airport express worked as advertised out of the box. just ran the setup program. no drama. they do not run hot. I'm using all windows 7 machines with intel processors and manufacturer provided equipment. Linksys dual band router. One oddity. I bought the dual band router planning to run the airport expresses on the "media" band of the router reserving normal computer traffic to the main band. Didn't work. The AE's were unstable and dropped a lot on the media band. Work fine on the main band.
  3. I've learned a lot reading CA for the last several months and have a pretty good system up and running. I am using a windows 7 computer as a server. I control it remotely with a laptop and remote desktop. I have the computer connected directly to a DAC and stereo components for higher quality playback. But during parties I do multi room playback with iTunes and multiple airport expresses. Generally, works well. Problem is occasionally windows 7 and running services may start doing something on their own. For example, the antivirus might decide to update itself or something like that. This can create some small gaps in playback. Not the end of the world, but it would be nice if this didn't happen. (This doesn't seem to be a problem when running local speakers only -- i.e. from u.s.b. --> DAC --> amp --> speakers. Just happens when running 2 or 3 airport expresses's at a time and the wifi connections get crowded.) Ideas on addressing this? Ways to configure Windows 7 network to make computer local only when used as playback (still visible for remote desktop but otherwise not connected to internet), but restorable to full functionality to download content, program updates etc when not in playback mode?
  4. So, how do you get your hands on the driver that works? The only download available on the m2tech.biz site is the current one.
  5. I am trying to use m2tech with j river and asio4all Able to open ASIO4ALL control panel and get the following error message: "Status: Beyond Logic! -> Disable System Sounds in Control Panel! -> Deactivate unused inputs and outputs! -> Drivers too old/too new? -> Computers Hate You! #87" I am working on a 4 week own windows 7 home edition laptop. Dell 15z model. Downloaded ASIO4ALL and HiFace drivers today. Entertaining, sort of. Tried with Wasapi (the plug in that comes with output package for j river). 16/44 stuff plays, but in direct mode. DAC shows 48, even though the file is 44. Oddly, if I try to play 176 material, DAC shows 176 but there is no sound. Any suggestions?
  6. Hi, thanks for taking time to respond. I've decided to try the m2tech hiface and have ordered one. Do you use JRiver to go to the Hiface? If using windows 7 on your box, what settings there? BTW, doesn't the 306 pro have a USB in? Have you tried that?
  7. Hello again, I've been reading computer audiophile for a month now and have now stuck my tow in the water and actually bought something. Since trial and error seems to be an unavoidable part of the process, I decided to follow a strategy of purchasing in order of priority the cheapest generally praised device (CGPD) and trying it out with stuff I already own. I receved several responses to an earlier post with different suggestions at costs ranging up to several thousand dollars. One of the responders suggested the m2tech hiface. I read up on it. A lot of people seem to like it and the manufacturer's literature at least claims to be able to do what i want. So at $150, the hiface is the CGPD and I ordered it and will try it out. I'm running from a windows 7 laptop with 4 gig of memory. I've used windows 7 performance troubleshooter to disable superfluous start programs and processes. I have a 2TB NAS attached to a linksys router (dual band N, wrt610n). I plan to rip my cd collection to flac on the NAS and also want to avail myself of high definition downloads. I've downloaded the latest version of J River (based on Chris's posts recommending this -- at $50, another CGPD!). Goal here is bit perfect output to the Cary 306 up to 24/192. Anybody done this? Suggestions on specific settings in windows 7 and J River to get bit perfect stream out the USB to the hiface?
  8. Helllo all, My goal is to setup J River to play multi zone to UPnP/DLNA devices. Going to a home theater system and 2 stereos. In principal, this will work. Purpose is not high definition in this application. Want to push synchronized music to multiple stereos for parties. I'm running on windows 7 laptop and just downloaded the latest version of j river. I have a 2TB NAS device attached to new linksys dual zone N. I plan to rip my CD collection to flac to the NAS and also use internet radio content. I purchased Western Digital TV Live boxes as the receiver. After about 4 hours of messing around with it, I couldn't get it to work using the the manufacturers software and recommended setup procedure (let alone trying to get J River to drive it). Last firmware update was about 8 months old and all the documentation referred to either xp or vista setup. Maybe something is not quite right about compatible with 7. Has anyone successfully done this? Have advice on which upnp device actually works and how to setup J River to get best results?
  9. I have a Cary Audio 306 SACD player which has digital inputs and can function as a DAC accepting streams up to 24/192. (Rest of the system is Cary SET pre-amp and amp going to Triangle Magellan speakers. Spent more on my stereo than my car.) Available digital inputs are toslink, coax, AES/EBU. There is no clock input. I want to hook a windows 7 computer to the SACD player to act as music server taking advantage of highest possible fidelity available in the files. I asked Cary technical support how to do this and they sent me here. I've been reading the forum and there seem to be a lot of options and a lot of dedicated folks tolerant of questions from neophytes like myself. Any suggestions? Karl
