Chromecast Audio (Analog and Digital Outputs) $35
Nes replied to The Computer Audiophile's topic in General Forum
It should work, but it has not been reliable at all for me. Never been able to cast anything in that way to my Chromecast Audio. -
Very basic home networking question.
Nes replied to wgscott's topic in Networking, Networked Audio, and Streaming
yes it will work, I assume your cable modem is the dhcp server -
I was referring to the PCM -> DSD converter specifically. That crashed many times. Also the resulting DSD files were not playable, my amp even went into protection mode!

Been trying it out. Bit buggy. Crashes regularly.

Interesting. Had not noticed. Useful as not all players do this on the fly and automatically. Also, end result depends on the actual SRC algorithms used.

Why not more dacs with ethernet input?
Nes replied to pvanosta's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Personally I think this will be a selling feature of the next wave of DACs. Either Ravenna (as with the Merging NADAC) or UPnP (as with the dCS Rossini). No more messing about with USB. -
New DAC from Merging Technologies for Home Audio Market
Nes replied to bmoura's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Sinds this thread is about the NADAC. I've heard someone mention the NADAC internally converts everything to DSD 128 which seems odd since it supports up to DSD 256. Can anyone confirm this? -

The NADAC I had on loan last week was an 8-channel version. I used it in Stereo mode where 2x4-channels are summed (configured from the System Preferences panel added by the driver installation). I also understood from the importer that the outputs are summed too. This way the NADAC behaves as the 2-channel version. I didn't used the Emotion software. I installed the Core Audio driver and played from HQPlayer (you can select the NADAC directly from HQPlayer). -

I had one in my system for an evening courtesy of my dealer and the importer. Way too short for a fair review and I am not approaching this from any scientific angle but what I heard was real punch in the lower regions, eerie rendering of voices (goose bumps hearing Kate Bush' voice on "Don't Give Up") and the music was extremely detailed. Mind you this was only from CD-quality, I didn't have time to properly listen to higher quality source material. I decided to order one after returning it to the dealer. Should be with me in a couple of weeks. -

UpTone Audio USB Regen Listening Impressions

Received mine (amber) this week. I power it through the 9V out of an HDPlex power supply. My DAC is a Shiit Bifrost (with Uber upgrade). I can't see I hear the dramatic improvements others have reported. If there is any it is subtle. Certainly didn't bring tears to my eyes. I'm not one who does a lot of direct A/B testing. I'll leave it in for a few days and see if I hear any differences when I take it out. -

Thanks for posting the YouTube link, nothing new but good introduction to the product. Funny how they want to demonstrate the device in a noisy environment through a crappy mic played back on YouTube (turn it up!, tsssk). Like a television commercial for a television.
