  1. I use the Duet and Pure Music. Sounds very good. I have not tried very many stand alone D to A converters but have had many good CD players and the Appogee sounds as good as any I have owned.

    Pure Music

What is the easiest way to upgrade to new versions? I have the check for updates box checked but it never seems to. The only way I have found is to go to the Pure Music site and download the new versions. Is there a simpler way?
  3. I almost always listen to whole albums and want to hear them exacly as they were mastered, with no extra gaps and whatever silence between tracks on the original left in place. It seems that Itunes does this without checking the gapless playback box on the albums. I have read up on this and understand that it only affects things when you are using a cross fade setting. I wonder why Pure Music cannot do the same??? So, From the little bit of experimenting I have done it appears that Pure Music will play the albums gapless if I check the gapless box for the album in Itunes. I am using the hybrid memory playback mode by the way. My Questions are 1: I have a few thousand albums in my library and it will take for ever to go album by album and check the boxes. Can I just select all albums - Get info and check the box once. I am thinking I can but don't want to turn my library into one giant gapless album. Does Itunes just tag every song separately or does it actually group an album into one gapless piece? 2: Are there any reasons why I should not want every album tagged gapless? Will it cause any problems? I do not understand why anyone would want to insert gaps in the first place. Thanks for any help you can give. I am new at this and not very experienced with Itunes or Macs.
  4. I store all my albums in aiff uncompressed form in Itunes. I there an easy way to move only selected albums like from a playlist I create to an Ipod touch and compress them at least to loss less form. I see a thing under the advanced tab to create ipod version bt this is never active what am I missing or is there no way Thanks for any help you can give, Bob
  5. Hello, This is my first post but I have been lurking for a while. I Thank you for your forum it has been an incredible resource for me. I recently decided to move to a music server system because my CD colection had been taking over my entire basement for years now. I want to rip them all and put the majority of them into a storage unit. After reading this site until my head just about exploded, I purchased a mini mac, a Western Digital My Book Studio II - 4TB (2 x 2 TB) external HD and an Appogee Duet interface. The sound is surprisingly good. I am using Itunes to rip my discs using AIFF and error correction. I have searched for hours to find answers to to two big questions I have and I hate to admit it but I am not a very good searcher, so hopfully you guys can help me out. My questions are about storage space and backup. I have set up my HD as RAID 1. I thought I would have plenty of space but after using 10% of the available 2TB I am not 10% of the way through my collection. I need more space. I also read that RAID is not an acceptable backup plan so I need to do something about that also. Is the answer as simple as buying another 4TB MyBook switching the current one over to non RAID to get the full 4TB and backing up the one with the other on a regular basis or is it more complicated than that. Should I stop ripping now until I get things sorted out or is it no problem to reconfigure everything when my current HD is almost full. Thanks in advance for any help. I am not very familiar with this stuff. I have no computer setup or admin experience.
