  1. Well in the case of SSD the primary reason that makes your computer sound better is because it has no moving parts ie electric motor that generates radio frequency noise...<br /> <br /> amarra, I have no idea, that makes no sense to me what so ever and i still have trouble believing it...<br /> <br /> Power supply I can only feel can have something to do with radio noise as well...
  2. The Ayre uses the Texas Intruments DSD1796 a 24bit 192kHz Delra Segma DAC
  3. Hello Chris,<br /> <br /> Since you are to the best of my knowledge the only one to hear all the dacs in your cash list... In your opinion, just how much better to the best of your memory is the more expensive dacs in your list to the Ayre? Is the cost really that much better to justify the cost difference? <br /> <br /> I just recently read a review about the Ayre saying it is the best value in DACs on the market today... I've also been very impreessed with all the reviews ive been ready about the new NAIM DAC...<br /> <br /> I'm looking to buy a new DAC in the next few days, i would love some more advice...<br /> <br /> Thanks<br /> <br /> Cam

    iPAD!!!

WOW this thread really took off... Its been awhile since ive logged on... I personally already pre-ordered my iPAD. I dont care that it does not act like a traditional computer... The scale of software out there already available for it is astronomical. It will not do everything a standard laptop will do, but it will in many ways offer more options and cheep options at that in terms of software... And the simple fact anyone can write software for it, is pretty cool. If there is something you want it to do, but software was not already available, or even allowed, you could always write it yourself (if you have the know how that is). Someone on here already pointed out and reminded me very early in this thread, that a new music server program would not be allowed, because it competes with apples own iTunes. But that does not stop be from writing it anyways and just keeping it for myself. *smiles* But other strong points... A remote can be made, and im not sure, but you can prob make the remote look anyway you want it it, and maybe in such a way it looks and gives the perception you are using a new music server program. This could be great for the people who dont like that iTunes looks...

    iPAD!!!

Ya I like the way you think. Funny thing is my friend and I can think of so many hardware products that we would love to develop. So much so we are considering approaching a few companies who might have the means to produce some of our ideas. Sadly I'm to scared to share them because we are getting pretty serious about a few. So confident in a couple makes us both wish we had the capital to open a whole new small start up company based on the iPAD product catered primarily to the audiophile market. I guess time will see. We are both petty damn excited about a few ideas rolling around in our heads.

    iPAD!!!

So my Best Friend is a Apple Developer and I got him to confirm that the new iPAD does have the same digital out that the new iPODs have... When I first heard of the iPAD the first thing that popped into my head was the ultimate gorgeous portable music server... Lord know this feature alone is worth the price of the darn thing, and i fully plan on buying a couple and using one as my music server... Im working with my friend to help develop an iPAD app that will cater to us AUDIOPHILES... I am beyond pumped and excited... Im totally dropping my MPD project and focusing all my efforts on this project now... Would love some ideas you folks would love to see in the software ok, and GO!
  9. Hello Green,<br /> <br /> First off let me congrats you on a great purchase, but let me also extend a bummer that you got a dud! I think it really was just a dud unit. Im confident that if you send it back and get a new unit you will be happy.<br /> <br /> Umm and in regards to you not being able to burn one of your CDs, that is most likely that CD is protected from pirating and copying. Some companies made CDs that can not be copied. I have a few myself.<br /> <br /> I hope you dont think they will all be like that... I got some good news that you might love to hear... I just picked up the new issue of WHATS HIFI. It is one of the few audiophile magazines whos reviews i trust... GREAT news being they RANKED it FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS. It is in many circles considered a mag that sets a benchmark rating on many HIFI products. The Mag confirmed what i have been saying about the unit the whole time... It is a HUGE value in the audiophile world. YES its expensive, but for everything it does and how it sounds it is a HIFI steal! <br /> <br /> I hope you will give the unit another try.<br /> <br /> Cam
  10. Hmmmm well that sounds bothersome...<br /> <br /> But in your opinion what would you compare the Olive HD to? I find your statement about how it does not compare to a music vault with the lynx card to be vague and incomplete if you dont state a specific DAC...<br /> <br /> Since in essence its just a computer with an onboard DAC... What are you comparing it to? Do you have a CD player in mind you can compare it to?<br /> <br /> Plus do you think its possible you might have a defective product if youre having so many software problems? I would think that the two should be able to find each other with ease, since being built by the same manufacturer...
  11. This just goes to see how different people think... Where you place speakers as your number one, I personally put the speakers as the very last thing of importance, and everything else ahead of them... I feel i would rank the importance in sonic as such 1/ The source is hands down the most important. And to me I cant possibly see how anyone can say any different. Just do to the simple fact that its impossible to improve a signal once it has left the source. IMPOSSIBLE! From the point the signal leaves the source it can ONLY degrade. I'm open to anyones argument that can prove me otherwise. 2/ I would place the Pre amp as number 2. We all know the very best pre amps are the ones who you don't know are even there, the ones who show no noticeable impact on the original signal...You want a great preamp so you have as very little impact on the original signal before it is transfered to the amp... 3/ The interconnects, for the very same reason as i stated for the preamp. A great interconnect should have as very little impact on the original signal before it reaches the AMP. 4/ which brings me to the Amp, it is where the most changes occur to the signal... I think we can all figure out what we want our amp to do at this point. And why a great amp is needed. 5/ The Speaker Cable... Once again we want a great speaker cable that will not alter the signal once it has left the Amp... 6/ which brings me to the Speaker as the last major component in the line up... 7/ would be all the tweaks we do... And the first tweak i would do is room treatment, then mains cables and conditioners... everything after than in my opinion makes very little impact in my experience.. As you can see the logic in my line up is all based on trying to keep the signal as original as possible as it passes down the line through all the components... And the ultimate logic behind it all is, its impossible to improve a signal once its passed through anything, the signal only gets worse once you alter it in anyway... Anyways, thats my two bits. In no way do i want to offend anyone. Just posting my thoughts... Cam 3/ I would then place the Amp at 3.
  12. In your opinions, do any of you think the Berkley Alpha DAC would benifit with a master clock between it and the computer? Lets say the Master Clock being the BIG BEN...
  13. that would totally be your call... Most audiophiles leave there equipment on or in standby mode, it has an audible effect on most equipment when its kept warm, some pieces more than others... Im not sure if an entry level product like the Klipsch will show much audible change thou... So like i said its your call... it will keep drawing power while its on, and if your ok with that, then leave it on... But if you dont want the added cost to your power bill then turn it off... you could find another way to switch it off with a power cord with a switch you can place closer to your reach... by the way, congrats on your new toy. I like the Klipsch myself for what they do... Im sure you will enjoy them aswell
  14. I was just about to write a new thread, to ask this exact question... I guess i dont need to... But with that said, i did come across another professional audio company that makes a pci card that is in the same range as the LYNX... the reviews i read sound great... this is also the same pci card that is found in the Sooloos. Here is a link the maker is RME a german company, and the card is the Hummerfall DSP 9632 PCI. sadly its not an express card... cost $730USD http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_hdsp_9632.php Hmm i also came across this other card, that is an express card from what i can tell its the Hammerfall but in a PCI Express version... its called the HDSPe AIO it seems to have more flexibility with the added an AES I/O which the Hammerfall does not have... it goes for $799USD.. looks like a better choice than the Hammerfall DSP and maybe even the Lynx card Here is the link http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_hdspe_aio.php http://www.soundonsound.com/news?NewsID=11318 http://www.gearslutz.com/board/rap-hip-hop-engineering-production/371515-rme-hdspe-aio-lynx-aes16e.html Another card that someone might consider is the Apogee Symphony 32 PCIe card... Heard and read great things about it today... http://vintageking.com/Apogee-Symphony-PCI-Express
  15. Before i even read what other people said i already to put together a short list for you... I pleasantly surprised to see many of the speakers i thought of were already mentioned from others... but hear they are from what i think is best to worst... Just as others said, i think the **Audioengine A2** should be your first choice even though they dont have a sub... You can down the road buy a tiny sub for it later if thats an option... LINK http://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-White-Powered-Speaker-System/dp/B000VKEFMS/ref=pd_sim_dbs_e_7 Best Bang for your buck and best entry level computer 2.1 speakers system made if you can find them (next to impossible, but still possible to find them in north america ) would be the **Acoustic Energy Aego M** If your not aware Acoustic Energy is a british speaker maker that makes some of the best speakers in the world. They are based on the $600 Aego2 satellite speaker...These are the BEST 2.1 computer speakers on the market in the $200 range and if you can find them, then you are one lucky dude. LINK http://www.macworld.com/product/ipod/795/detail.html The next 2.1 system i think you should look at is a Bose system.. I personally am not a fan of bose home stereo systems, but there technology seems to fit well in this market (computer satellite speakers). I found a site that is selling the Bose Companion 3 Speakers at a below market value of $225. I believe these normally go for around 300. LINK http://www.shopping.com/xPO-Bose-Companion-3-Multimedia-Speaker-System-3-Piece- Next would be another system already brought up, the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 2 Speakers. These speakers got a wide known recognition for being great sounding at there price point. I personally would regard them as a top qualifier and put on your short list... LINK http://www.shopping.com/xPO-Promedia-2-1 The last speakers system you should consider was also brought up already and thats the Harman Kardon SoundSticks II. The style is not for everyone, but they sound great for what they are meant to do, and for the price point they are at... better than any logitec, altec, creative etc etc LINK http://store.apple.com/ca/product/T9078LL/A I hope this help.... i put them in order from best to worse for sound quality and value I think the one that fits you best is the Acoustic Energy's.... but like i said they are hard to come by in north america... but if you look hard enough, im 100% positive you will LOVE THEM!
