  1. Might be better to look at your design goals, the result you want and let the means arise from there and if that's what you've already done be assured there will be a way, here's a site with a range of PCI flexi extenders and adaptors: http://www.adexelec.com/pci32.htm you could also go with an external hard drive keep us in formed of your progress best wishes
  2. Tip of the week: "don't eat yellow snow" HoHo....here's a link to my blog http://torqueblissfi.blogspot.com/2010/09/vision.html Torque Bliss-fi; where I highlight David Elias's 'The Window' available in DSD, for info on this see the link in my article 'Vision' and/or enjoy a sample from the sidebar widget, where you can also purchase the Mp3, ...the yellow snow haha
  3. Hi came across the less loss site today and thought I would share here as they have some downloadable recordings heres the link: http://www.lessloss.com/high-resolution-audiophile-recordings-c-68.html?zenid=0lvrth8treqcolqb0ti81spfd4 Does anyone know how to add a Hi-res download feature to an osCommerce powered store (version 2.2RC2a)? Building a store at present, any contributions appreciated.. Happy Listening!
  4. Hi I see Asus have released Beta version ASIO driver described as Bit Perfect: Xonar Essence ST bit-perfect ASIO driver (beta) for Windows XP 32/64bit 1. Sample rate supported: 44.1 / 48 / 88.2 / 96 / 176.4 / 192 kHz 2. Supports one ASIO playback stream (maximum 8 channels) to analog output. 3. Supports one ASIO recording stream (2 channels) from analog input. 4. Recording source (microphone in or line in) is selected by system mixer. 5. To keep the ASIO stream bit-perfect, the following two rules apply: (1) The ASIO stream has higher priority of using DMA buffer than other streams. That is, when the ASIO stream is played, other streams cannot be played. (2) No volume control is available for the ASIO stream. 6. When there are more than two ASIO applications running, only one application gets the right to use the hardware resource. This is based on “first come, first service” rule. 7. Current buffer time is set at 10ms, will be adjustable in later version. Disclaimer: Please be noted that this is still test version and feedback in our support forum should you encountered any error during operation, we appreciate your assistance to make Xonar Essence ST/STX bit-perfect driver better. ASUS Xonar support forum: http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx?board_id=21&SLanguage=en-us here's the link: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx how does it sound, puuuurrrfect??
  5. Hi Tim thankyou so much , had a look and it looks great, glad you are having good success with this converter, after installing the right codec dbpoweramp does the business and I am very happy. I have a Windows XP system so MAX does indeed look like a good recommendation for Mac OS X 10.4 or later regards *man
  6. thankyou Chris, didn't realise or I guess understand the nature of this converter and that a codec was all that was required to make this possible.
  7. Hi Chris thanks for the recommendation, downloaded dBpoweramp, reference version is free for 21 days on a trial basis. Almost A2A does not cover AIFF by the look of it?? "Is there No One else ! "....to paraphrase a line from TRoy If I put the F in front of A, I get FAIF so to keep the FAIF and create a mexican WAV, step up to the plate and do your audiophile best Starman
  8. Hi David thanks for that, I searched under XLD and found the AVS4you converter for audio, downloaded it and tryed it, yet it's an unactivated version, so not sure if this is the reason it did not work, as the resulting WAV file was pretty much white noise with a little bit of background talk nothing like the original audio...which was the 'My One and Only Love' track from the Jazz Prologue III sampler. Do you or anyone else know of a converter that will suit Microsoft Windows XP pro, SP2? thanks again Starman
  9. Hi Robert, Larry and all at CAFe That's a great quote Robert!...thanks for posting, sounds like it's reasonable to be unreasonable..ha AIFF does anyone know if this file type can be converted to WAV? HoHO HO, just about that time to shine so a Merry Christmas to one and all Starman
  10. Hi Chris and all, <br /> <br /> can AIFF files be converted to WAV as I downloaded the Jazz Pologue III tracks, played them through foobar and they sound great yet would love to hear if this greatness gets better still through CMP/cplay.<br /> (here's the link to Kent's site for JP III samples:<br /> <br /> http://www.designwsound.com/dwsblog/?page_id=318<br /> <br /> Chris has provided more detail on these recordings and a direct link elsewhere on this site, thanks Chris<br /> <br /> highly recommend the 2L site also:<br /> http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html<br /> <br /> I have only downloaded one track by Ola Gjeilo,(96k Flac), yet it really illustrated the difference in musicality and enjoyment between foobar and cplay/cmp, I much preferred cmp/cplay...like removing a towel or blanket from in front of the microphone. (Yet I still enjoy Foobar, I think it's the yellow screen [display choice I've chosen for foobar], anybody who can create these players deserves some serious respect as do you Chris for creating and sharing such a wonderful site).<br /> <br /> Cmp/cplay will only work with cue sheets derived from FLAC or WAV files as far as I know, please enlighten me If I know not what I say,<br /> <br /> thanks for your help in advance<br /> *man<br /> <br /> <br />
  11. Hi Bill and Chris this was a card I considered for the above, my interest today is related to building the best media pc, how is your progress with Asus? ps I love the sound of this card, hope there is a resolute outcome, the Asus M4A785G HTPC/RC motherboard looks interesting, any experience with this?, if so would this pass bit perfect data direct out the spdif from mobo? thanks.. currently I have a P4 system, pulled apart to let it breath and experiment a bit, onboard sound (!!), cardas cables up to a NAD304 thru some custom in-walls I've created out of old Technics 3 ways, I use cplay, cmp and foobar for playback, and have also enjoyed a little internet radio (radio paradise, lot's of stream choices available!)
