  1. I had never heard of QSound, but I can definitely hear what you’re talking about. Interestingly, if I switch to Mono in the BluOS app, I still hear somewhat distinct channels on the left and right. i’m going to return this and get the same amplifier without the BluOS module. I don’t like to have to worry about software in an amplifier when I’m listening to music.
  2. If it's not been configured, I assume it's not doing anything. The fact that there are no controls is a negative here. Anyway, shouldn't Dirac just be a sort of EQ, and not do any fancy DSP like faux stereo (which should never happen on any amp)?
  3. It has Dirac, but I don't see any way to enable or disable it. I was unable to configure Dirac yesterday, because there's no sub output and it kept giving me errors. So I don't know if it's doing anything. And should it affect the signal if I'm not streaming through BluOS, when I'm listened via a Toslink connection? There is no documentation about this at all.
  4. Done. They're mono through my AirPods. So it's definitely the amp doing something. And now I wonder what it's doing when I play stereo music; it has to be somehow applying DSP, which is not what I want. (Unless I choose to.)
  5. I’ve tried on numerous discs. I can check later to be absolutely sure, but it doesn’t sound like they’re just slightly different; it sounds like that faux stereo TVs used to make, or that some iTunes plug-in made to give assemblance of surround sound.
  6. These are CDs ripped in mono; so they have two equivalent tracks. This suggests that all music playing through this amplifier is undergoing some sort of processing. I’m inputting via task link, so I assume this bypasses the BluOS module. But I don’t see any specific way to turn that off. See what happens when I try to buy better stereo equipment? I may just return it and go back to my Sonos Amp.
  7. This is a weird one. I got a NAD C 3050 yesterday. I've never had this on an amplifier; if I play music in mono, it's converted to a sort of faux stereo. I first heard this playing over AirPlay via BluOS, but connected via Toslink it does the same thing. In addition, there' no sound output from the sub-woofer. I called the retailer, and they're not aware of this issue, and I don't know if it's related to the BluOS module - where there are lots of forum posts about it - or the amplifier itself. I have a feeling that I don't need software in my amplifier. Can anyone shed any light on this?
  8. Thanks Chris. I miss the good old days when all Macs had optical outputs.
  9. Well, it's not that simple, which is why I asked; ie, some I see on Amazon UK say 96, none say 192, and some don't say anything. As I said, there are multiple options, and I'm trying to figure out the best one. Thanks for your time. BTW, it looks like I can no longer edit the original. The USB port on the BluOS module is not a standard audio input; I found documentation that says its for connecting a USB thumb drive or hard drive. So that means there's no USB input on this amplifier, only coaxial and Toslink.
  10. I just bought a NAD C 3050 with the BluOS module. There are multiple options to connect the amp to my Mac, including Toslink. The BluOS module has a USB jack, and I'm assuming that means I can connect the Mac directly to that module. But does that mean that I can only play music using BluOS? I must say, the documentation for this is sparse. If I connect via Toslink, then I need to get a USB > Toslink adapter. Looking on Amazon, most of these seem to limit the audio to 48 kHz. I'd like to be able to eventually play audio at higher sample rates, since Apple Music goes up to 192 kHz. So if I want a USB > Toslink adapter, do they exist that pass through higher sample rates? Or is HDMI a better solution? There are plenty of USB > HDMI adapters; do they generally work for high-resolution audio? Thanks in advance.
  11. My purchased list goes all the way back to the very first albums I bought in 2001. On the left, is Recent Purchases selected? You should be able to find the album by artist in the list below, or by using the search field. This said, if the original album has been replaced by a later version, then you won't be able to complete it. This doesn't happen a lot, but there are several albums that I bought that are either no longer sold on the iTunes Store, or have been replaced by newer versions. These could be remasters, or expanded albums, where the label removes the original to not have duplicates.
  12. I'm glad it worked. I'll add this to my notes for the next edition of my book.
  13. Either would work fine. But it might work with just two iPhone/iPads syncing. I don't know why that needs to be turned on; maybe that's the only way that apps can add to an Apple Music library. This said, going forward, you may hit a point where the older Music app isn't fully compatible.
