1. Chris won't mind. There is nothing better than CA for digital fanatics anyway. Cheers
2. Thank you so much Kumakuma! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Much appreciated.
3. I haven't had a chance to pursue long reading sessions on CA to get up to date with the latest and greatest stuff out there. I have been stuck with my head in my vinyl collection without coming up for air for two years now. What I am looking for if it exists at all is an All in one digital music server/DAC/headphone amp in a tidy package that one could take to the beach with my headphones and enjoy the day without separate power supplies and cables and battery packs. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have a terrific home digital system so now for something smaller. Price is not an issue so suggest away. Please. Very grateful. Dude
4. Thank you so much for the comments. Since I saw no recent references to PM I assumed that it was passe and was replaced. The only limitation is playing FLAC files which I seem to have acquired allot of. I will try the open source program and do more research into Amarra and the others suggested. I think I will still bite the bullet and order a Crimson Silver in the long run. I have loved the Cosecant but my decision isn't in stone. Love the CA community. I find it refreshing to see that the egos are left at the door and this truly is a valuable forum for us with this audio sickness. Cheers and be well.
5. Well I'm back. I have had a bit of a holiday from audio obsessing and scouring the site for more and more information and to be frank I was having a great time listening to my system. I thought after tweaking the room acoustics and setting up all the equipment with just the right cables and ICs I would be totally happy but then I started on this site again. I feel like I'm missing something now and since my wife put a stop to me blowing my brains out on a high end analog system I need to step up the DAC and the software end of my system. I using a MAC Mini as a dedicated server with backup of course. A Wavelength Cosecant V2 that I love with a Tele NOS tube and my system is all tube CAT JL-3 Statement monos [newest and bestest ones out there] a VAC Phi 2.0 Controller Pre and a CAT SL-1 Legend, and finally Wattpuppy 8's with pure silver speaker cables that sound amazing. That part of the system I am happy with. I was thinking of upgrading to the Silver version of the Wavelength Crimson but the cost vs improvement is a little dubious. I don't know whether I'll get $10K worth of sound improvement. I am still going to end up with a table eventually but staging is everything. You married guys understand. Anyhow any software advice would be welcome. Cheers and happy listening.
6. Hi Gordon; I just wanted to say how happy I have been with my Cosecant V3 with the numerator module. I am ready to take the next step and order a Crimson Silver. I just wanted to know before I do how much better can it get? My system consists of a VAC Phi 2.0 controller all tubed with Telefunken ECC803s tubes and a CAT JL-2 amp with unreal NOS tubes as well and the IC's and speakers are Wilson Audio Watt Puppy 8's and this combo with my Mac mini is just killer. I currently use iTunes as the player with Ipad remotes etc. and I find it hard to beleive that it could be better than this. Is it worth getting Amarra or some other software to go with this before I move up to the Crimson? I have read many reviews and I am sure that I will be happy but the guy that sold me the Cosecant to this day is kicking his butt for selling it. I have over 1000 hours on it and it is superb. The soundstage if incredible and the imaging is so real that when I close my eyes I could swear they are right in the room with me. I have the highest respect for your products and look forward to your advice. I read on CA pages that some spend money like water on unbeleivably expensive DAC's and it seems never to end!! I have a budget which is probably much more than most but with as many interests that I have I like to spread the wealth around and not blow my brains out on just one obssession. Any constructive advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. Cheers and much thanks Nick
7. Eloise; Thanks for the input. Do you have a Chord DAC and do you mean that you still need a Lynx AES16(e) card in the computer for those type files? I am still learning on what goes where for these type of devices. I plan to use this with a computer with a CD-ROM so you are saying that you connect the computer to the Chord via the Lynx card right? I will get it eventually. Cheers Nick
8. I read your post and many others that refer to blown tweeters. How does this happen and is it a real possibility?
I have a pair of Wilson Watt Puppy 8's and the thought of blowing a tweeter really disturbs me. I'm not made of money and returning 300 pound speakers for service is not an option. Could someone explain how this would happen and how to avoid it. Thanks so much

Nick
9. Thanks for the response. I am so glad to see that I am not the only one confused by all the reviews. My friend and I are getting back in to audio after a long hiatus and he has gone the vinyl turntable way and me being more of a techie I want to go DAC server route. We were listening to my vinyl collection on his new VPI Aires 3 with his $2k cartridge and you what it was a pain in the backside. The hissing and the popping and the scratches were trully annoying. You don't drop all that cash on amps and speakers to listen to pops louder and clearer. Then if you don't like that song then get up and lift the arm up and pick the next song or clean another album etc.etc.etc. My album collection is vast and in mint condition but still there is all that noise and work. He threw on a CD into a 20 year old CD player and said "doesn't that sound awfull". Well it did. It was harsh, had no depth, the midrange was really brash and the bass was too muddled and booming but after I get my proper DAC system set up I think he may be eating crow. I too don't want to spend 6K on a DAC either so I will look at your suggestion. Have you heard anything about the Chord QBD76? My audio store guy is pushing this one. He says it out performs the $30k CD transports by far. His price is usually $6400 but he has his demo on for just under $5K. Have a look at it. It really looks out of this world in design which is a little disturbing considering the price. I am auditioning it this week so I will let you know. Happy listening Nick
10. I have just found this site today and I don't think I've stopped reading since 11am this morning. It's 6pm here now. Cheers and thanks Nick
11. I was going to purchase an expensive CD transport from Simaudio like their 5.3 but after reading this forum I decided to go the server route with a DAC instead. I am actually going to listen to the Chord QBD76 next week and I do love Simaudio. I have the W-10 amps and the I-5 preamp and power supply and a pair of Wilson Watt Puppy 8's so I would like a reference quality source for sure. My home theatre is all Sim Moon stuff with the Titan-7 and Lexicon MC-12 processor. Eventually I will go into a tube amp the LammML2.1 Mono block but for now this will be just great. Thanks for your input. I have been reading all the diffrent forums and systems Chris has posted. I will probably build the fanless one he has in the server section. I do love to tinker around with stuff. This new obsession will sure give me lots to do during the long cold winters up here. Cheers and happy listening Nick
12. Thanks for this system. I will try this as a starter server system. Have you had a chance to compare the
Chord QBD76 to your Berkeley ADA DAC yet? I haven't bought a DAC yet and would like your opinion please.
Cheers
Nick

Love your website.
13. I am a newbie to the digital world as far as DAC is concerned. I've got amazing amps, preamp and speakers now I need a phenomal source for all that stuff. I just sold a assemblage D2D-1 that was brand new and never used two weeks ago and now I find out I could have used it all along. Any opinions on which DAC to buy ie. Chord D76, Ayre qb-9 or Minerva. I will use a MAC or PC as the digital source. I would like to know what CD player to get with the computer and what format is best for storing the music files. I apologise for my ignorance in these matters but I am trying to catch up reading all the forum pages. Love this site. Please and thank you. Cheers Nick
