  1. I decided to go witht he Ayre 9 usb dac. Macbook>Ayre 9>ssp-800>mc500 monos> nordost speaker wires> b & w 800 d With some tweeks to the macbook as per Ayre instructions, it sounds awsome....
  2. Looking for some answers to make decision easier. I have a Macbook running into a Classe -ssp-800 processor via mini to toslink (octupler Van Den Hul). I understand the Macbook has limitations for firewire on Alpha Dac and DAC 2 would be the way to go. I prefer the Alpha DAC for its benefits as a great DAC alone and not just for computer audio. Anyway for me to get Macbook to work with Alpha DAC and acheive quality up to 24-192k (future use)?? Right now, Itunes w/ Aiff is running. Also had thoughts on Ayre QB-9 USB and Ammarra player connected to Weiss DAC 2. Need to make a decision. Anyone want to chime in???
  3. Tim, Im looking to run my macbook through one of these internal DACS. In the past, I used macbook >kimber USB> DAC -7 >Mac c220 pre> dual mono mc501> b&w 800d. Now acquired ssp-800 / cdp502 and looking to use internal DACs and keep it going. How does the ssp-800 sound to you?? Have any thoughts on using BC link or toslink from macbook?? Anybody else want to chime in.....
  4. Yes, great article. I can replicate everything exept the soundcard and DAC you recommend. I need at least 10 feet of the cable you mention in the article. I have a squezzebox and maybe that is the route I need to go. Again, I'm looking for high quality sound like most of the audiophile community. Loved the pics from the show. How is that Poiema USB cable? looks fat and nice in camparison with my Kimber.
  5. Need some advice. Just built a new PC with Windows XP pro. Whats the best way to get signal to my DAC (Audio Research DAC-7). I have optical and SPDIF outputs on the sound card. I'm looking at 10 feet of wire or whats the best way to go wirless. Already have a Macbook set up next to DAC with Kimber USB cable running Itunes. Want to download high quality sites like HD tracks, etc. Any thoughts. Thanks, JAY
  6. I'm have a new PC built and I need to know what audio cards should be considered. Also, I want to connect wirelessly to my DAC. Any recommendations and how should I run it to my ARC DAC. Also have Macbook system and having trouble with IPhone remote app. Not able to get Itunes to sync. Thanks, Jay
  7. Chris, I finally backed up a few tunes on n2100. A few questions foryou. ~Should the n2100 show up in itunes under shared folder along with other playlists? ~When I hit this folder, it won't open and says their maybe a firewall ~When I click on the Itunes (thecus n2100) server icon, it takes me to its own folder and plays through quicktime player. How can i get it to play through Itunes. Thanks for your help. JAY
  8. Chris, I had to get thecus support involved. I had different IP addresses due to airport and caused problems. I have the thecus stored behind an electrical panel box in my basement and u can't here the it. I'm starting to move the Itunes files into the Thecus (N2100ms) media server addition. Do I need to take every song and import it? Are there other ways to move entire playlists?? Lets say I rip an entire disk, it seems I need to move one song file at a time. May be you can enlighten me. You have the better NAS, but moving files should be the same. Thanks for your help earlier. JAY
  9. Chris, An ethernet wire goes from the back of thecus to the airport. The airport extreme base is the router/ hub with 3 ethernet hubs on the back. Airport hub is connected to the cat 5 wall jack.
  10. Chris, Here the layout. Fios internet comes to a main router in my basement. Cat 5 is in most rooms. My office upstairs has an airport express hub which is the connected to the cat 5 wall jack. The Imac and thecus are connected to the airport. My macbook will be used in my basement for the audio. the airport is working for wireless also. Don't use it much, but it is there when I need it. Let me know what other info you need. Thx for your help. Jay
  11. Chris, Wonder if you can help me. I connected the thecus to my mac airport express router. I installed the program and it doesn't recognize the device which is upstairs. Any thoughts. waiting for Thecus support to open.
  12. Chris, As far as Itunes, all the downloads are 16/44.1 correct? All of my itunes are purchases. I ripped a few CD's, but nothing of high quality. Most of my downloads will be from HDracks and ripping of DVD audio. I'm setting up the theacus and mac today. Just want to know hot to set up for Itunes purchased playback vs high res playback. Yes, not to mac audio savy. Thx
  13. Chris, Do you recommend the Kimber USB or the imperical audio cables that use coax/spdif (ouch!! $980) Also, I'm not very mac savy for audio. So for downloading from different HD sites, what format should I use for my macbook and do I need to reconfigure anything for playback??? then Thanks for the great advise
  14. reading about benchmark reviews give the impression the ease of use with Mac vs others like PS audio DAC. Just need it for computer only. Do I need to reconfigure anything with PS dac?? Benchmark seems easier by all the comments I've read. Anybody have any thoughts????
  15. Chris, Looking to get cullen mod PS DLIII mod for just computer use. will use ARC for other items. Does macbook have any issues with USB on DLIII and general connectivity??? I understand that benchmark works smooth with Mac. Is UBS connection the best or can I use firewire to PS??
