1. Thanks for this information. This is helpful. Where in iTune Preferences would I find where to "point" it to? Thanks.
  2. I have a Mac mini and it is running out memory. I thought my dealer set this up to pull the music off my ext HD. It is not. Beyond sending it back to Evanston IL, any suggestions?
  3. Here is the situation: I am running Amara mini while iTunes is open on the monitor. I then switch on the iPad remote button which shows mac mini iTune but not the Amara icons. Does this mean that the Amara is still running even though I cannot see the icon? Someone thought that without the icon Amara was not operating.
  4. What is the difference between WAV and FLAC files? A person at a high end store told me they think WAV sounds better. WHy?
  5. I just picked up my new WyWire LtSPD USB from my dealer here in Boston (very reputable dealer). Plugged into my mac-mini (dedicated to music) and I get a red warning sign: "USB draws too much power-other USB devices were disabled due to draw". Thus, the mouse and keyboard were disabled. Next, plugged into my iMac-same issue. Alex from WyWire was quick to respond to my issue. Though this just happened 12 hours ago. I know my retailer and Alex will replace if this is a faulty cable. Otherwise, any thoughts on what may be happening? FYI-I did audition this cable from the same dealer and it sounded beautiful. Hence the decision to buy. Thanks, Tim
  6. Sounds nice. The problem I am having with computer audio servers is in every version available, I need to recruit another source to make the system complete. Here I will need to rely on my Mac and XLD and no means of a convenient back. I like keeping cost down via the iPad app, but that is far as I am willing to go.

Three years ago computer audiophile was being ignored. Now it is the golden- haired child. I believe that we will see some company bring a more inclusive system to market worthy of $$30K in amps and speakers.

Until then, I will wait on the side lines with my Mac mini, XLD, Amarra and QB-9.

Merry Christmas everyone!

7. The review of the dcs U-Clock is impressive. Knowing little, is this something that would/should be a part of my system? Ayre QB-9 + macMini + Amarra.

Thanks for feedback.

TH
8. I listened to the "Home Theater Geek" #9 discussing HD music. In the interview the guest gave the example of the latest John Mellencamp CD that was recorded on tape. According to the podcast, tape & vinyl are at best 12 bit. So the comment was, "how can this be HD if the original was not 24 bit? That is why I wondered how much better an analog recording could sound? Thanks for the feedback. Tim
  9. If an Buddy Guy's "Stone Crazy was recorded in the 1981 using analog (redbook standards), how can it be HD 24/96? Will the HD version of the this cd sound better in HD vs the redbook recording? I was always under the impression that it needed to be recorded at 24/96 to get the extra quality sound out of it. Can you guess I am new at this?! Tim
  10. I was advised to get a Seagate Firewire 800 (1 TB) for my Mac Mini (advice from a trusted computer audiophile in Chicago). The problem is, Seagate is backordered on the "Free Agent Desk for Mac". The Seagate rep does not know how long this will take to resolve. What would anyone recommend as an alternative? I should point out, that my source said that the Seagate proved to be the quietist in their test. Thanks TH
  11. Is it worth it to buy a used Mac Mini to become my dedicated music system? Are there reliable resurces out there that sell used MM?

    Lynx cards

I have a iMac. I was instructed to get a Lnyx card for my system (to hook the iMac into a Konnekt8-no longer sold). Any guess as to why? The person recommending this did not have the time (nor I had the intelligence to ask why) to explain. Thanks, Tim
  13. Being new to computer audio, I have been encouraged to equip my system with NAS. One high end retail suggested (2) 2T disc. I have 32 GB of music and one listening room/audio set up. Why would I need something so large? Could I get by with a single (2) 1T disc for about $300? Thanks, Tim
  14. Is there any "rule" or advice as to how far a run of USB cable can go (from iMac to DAC) without losing any quality? If I exceed any recommended lengths, would going the firewire route w/lynx card be the solution? Or...a mac mini next top the DAC & Amp??? Tim

    XLD

I admit I am not too sophisticated when it comes to computer related issues. I appreciate the interest in sharing with me suggestions. Thanks again. Tim
