  1. Chris any thoughts or memories as to how the McIntosh D1100 compared to the Rossini?
  2. I spent a weekend comparing PS Audio DS and the CHORD DAVE . Loved them both The Dave was absurdly transparent while still musically really neutral. The DS was ever so slightly less transparent but a little more lush in the sound which I tend to prefer. The Dave was a much better pre-amp for my system as there was not enough gain for my amp and speakers on the DS. No evidence of Hiss on the DS by the way. DS software was Huron by the way. I liked the DS slightly better, my wife LOVED!!! the Dave. But i got the Mcintosh D1100 which to me was basically a mix of the best aspects of both. To be honest the all of them were really great, its all about taste and system synergy.
  3. Just to follow up from my previous detailed review. I have recently tried a number of dacs including the PS Audio Direct Stream and the Chord Dave. Both fantastic by the way. The DAVE is like a microscope to music But the D1100 has that wonderful mix of extreme detail and lush massive sound stage. I am using it as a preamp directly connected into a Mcintosh MC-302. System synergy? My only complaint is the pop between some tracks especially when changing bitrate. Does anyone else get that? Still willing to forgive
  4. Hi here Basically I bit the bullet and managed to connect via my network. After a bit of swearing..... Anyway I can now manage my collection via my main PC which makes life so much easier.
  5. Thankyou I normally try to avoid dealing with networks like the plague, was hoping for a way via the app. there isn't... Anyway bit the bullet...all sorted now.
  6. Hi I have a very simple technical question for Aurender uses. I have an Aurender N100H and I wish to delete all my music on the on-board hard drive so i can completely replace my music collection from scratch For the life of me I cannot work how to delete everything. I have the read all documentation, searched the web/forums etc and found nothing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  7. Hi I have just installed a Keces DC-116 LPS with the 6v3A and 12v3A outputs to power an uptone audio regen as well as an external SSD which contains my music collection and is connected to my modded 2009 mac mini via firewire. Nice improvement, lower noise floor, more musicality, and for 350 usd delivered (within 2 weeks from order) really great value for money. Also, none of this 12 month wait which I had to do when I ordered my Paul Hynes supply a couple of years ago (He is a better engineer than businessman). FWIW, Eighteen months ago, I attended a pleasant evening testing several power supplies including a teddy pardo (which i own) and a keces. The keces won, although the Teddy Pardo also performed well. link is here. Great big power supply shootout. Teddy Pardo - DIY - Wallwart - Digital, DACs & Computer Audio - StereoNET
  8. Hi there thought I would pitch in. A bit of negativity towards the venerable old McIntosh in this forum, so I thought I would offer a contrary view. I have been on the audiophile journey for about 10 years, and in that time I have had a number of changes of equipment. Starting with a denon receiver, and a Shanling CDT80 Cd player to more recently a Conrad Johnson CA200 with A HD3 USB DAC fed by a tricked up mac mini powering Martin Logan Prodigys I love the CJ amp and it has served me well for 7 years, it was an amp which made my system sound better than a lot of more expensive systems I have heard (of course my own biased opinion) However, the upgrade itch has bitten over the last year and I had tried number of other amps in my system, including but not limited to Gryphon Diablo, Musical Fidenity KW500, Devialet 250 and a spectral amp i can't remember. All were different, some ways better, some ways worse than my little CA200. I would have loved to try higher end Conrad Johnson stuff, but the price was way out of my budget. Because I drive Martin logans, I need bigger amps and the bigger CJ valve stuff is crazy expensive. Anyway, to get to the point, I had the opportunity to try a second hand Mcintosh C50 pre-amp with a MC302 power amp, and I absolutely loved them. Yes they were warmer than other amps, no question but there was no loss of detail. These amps are maybe slightly less than transparent than the Gryphon but certainly on par with everything else I tried. My system became so much more musical than ever before even with the same dac. So I bought them. So all those comments about McIntosh being veiled, not my experience at all.
  9. Unfortunate Chris does not do comparisons in his reviews which is a shame as it undermines their usefulness for prospective purchasers. Given that he has a Berkley Audio Design DAC which is at a similar price range, I'm sure a comparison would have been easy.
  10. Hi Paul How is that batch of SR7 and SR7 multi-rails you indicated you were about to commence back in July going? Regards Frank
  11. Hi Paul I'll stay with the existing order and look at ordering a separate power supply for the USB stage a later date when things have settled down for you. Kind Regards Frank
  12. Hi Paul A few days ago (15 July) I emailed you requesting advice regarding the PS7-18.5v power supply I ordered in November, in particular whether the order could be amended to include an additional rail with a standard USB outlet, voltage and current (suitable for Y type USB cables) Your forum post on 7 July indicating that you will be soon working on SR7 Power supplies and given the age of my order I assume (hope!!!!) mine is one of them. Therefore I was hoping to get you before you commenced. If you could respond to my email it would be greatly appreciated, I have sent a number of emails in the last few months without response. Regards Frank
  13. How about some Jean Michel Jarre and Mike Oldfield
  14. <i>"Undoubtedly the Dac 202 is very fine dac. If you had reviewed it as such I would no issue. Instead you have, I suggest, moved from reviewer to spruiker.<br /> <br /> Chris has produced a fine review where he was extremely impressed with a product. <br /> <br /> What on earth is wrong with that?<br /> <br /> It seems to me you have a bit of an axe to grind.<br />
