1. What amps are you using? I've only used mine since April. I purchased it because I wanted to try an 8 channel DAC which only has AES input. It took about 5 minutes to install the card and drivers. I didn't have to change anything in the mixer. Once setup, you don't have to do anything again. I don't think you can create a 4.1 mix with the AES16e software. I use JRiver Media Center for all my playback and it does all the mixing and routing easily.
2. The ASIO driver has a feature called USBMLink for multiple devices and handles the synchronization between devices. As you add Myteks they show up as device0, device1, etc. I assume it probably uses the first device as the master clock. Buffer and sample rate settings are synchronized to all devices.
3. I helped David get his Myteks setup for stereo with stereo subs. With JRiver you have to use 4 channel output for use with two Myteks. I was assuming that channels 3 & 4 were the center/LFE channels, but actually channels 3 & 4 are the surround left and right channels when JRiver is in 4 channel mode. I'm looking forward to actually hearing his system in April.
4. I received a Steinberg MR816x last week and have been using it with J. River Media Center. I really like the MR816. APS, did you know you can do crossovers with MC's own DSP? The Parametric EQ can copy channels and add high/low pass filters with delay and gain for each filter. For example, you could copy channel 1 to channels 3 & 4. Channels 1, 3, & 4 could then be used for the left speaker. Channel 2 can be copied to channels 5 & 6 for the right speaker. You could even use channels 7 & 8 for subwoofer outputs. I'd be curious if this would work for you.
5. I have used JRMC for about 4-5 years (since version 9). I just switched from XP to Windows 7 on my HTPC. When using either ASIO or WASAPI Exclusive Mode it sounds better on Windows 7.
6. One feature that you didn't mention that I really like about JRMC 14 is its Library Server. With Library Server you can designate one computer as the server and use all other computers in the network to access your library server. For example, I can have my HTPC playing music. I can then start JRMC on my laptop and choose to either play the music that is on the server through the laptop, or I can control the music that is already playing on the server. In Playing Now you will see both a Zone 1 and There: Zone 1 for controlling the music. By choosing There: Zone 1, the laptop becomes essentially a remote control for the HTPC.

Library Server streams your music lossless if you have enough bandwidth so you can even use it over the internet. While I am at my office I can stream lossless music from my home computer. I can also access friends or relatives Library Servers if they have given me permission and the IP address.
