  1. That's what I used to think back when. I then I PM'ed Ted_b, LOL!
  2. And, this is really off topic, but if you want to go further down the rabbit hole for less coin than probably one of your cables, there's this: Surround Master V3 - INVOLVE AUDIO It isn't everything that sounds better through the Surround Master but there sure is plenty that'll knock your socks off. Okay, back to Quadio!
  3. C'mon Chris, you rip the SACD to iso and DSD, and play it through software or through your OPPO blu ray player (in bitstream format if you have to). Is it so hard? Same with the Sony 7" SACD series with purchases done through cdjapan.. Can you say "Bitches Brew," "Mott The Hoople," "Rick Derringer All American Boy" or "Love, Devotion, Surrender," etc.? And the Dutton Vocalion discs (often twofers) are the best values in digital quad!
  4. There’s also an OOP Rhino Aretha Franklin mixed in multichannel. By the way Chris, have you ever checked out Dutton Vocalion’s quad reissues or the long OOP Audio Fidelity discs in 4.0 and 5.1?
  5. Chris, your article brings to mind the Sennheiser HE-1. Though the HE-1's components (no DAC) make any comparison kind of apples and oranges, it is in a similar price category(stratosphere!). Hypothetically, I wonder how your experience would compare if you paired the HE-1 with dCS DAC and master clock.

  7. I’m not sure that her dummy head mic’s were the culprit given that these were the TOTL Devore Reference speakers in John Devore’s presumably dialed in listening room. OTOH, the video was made with John’s only pair of the speakers just 24 hours before packing up and shipping to RMAF, so things may have been too rushed. Either way, the video was awesome, and PP Garcia’s video shows the way for how to record a Dolby Atmos presentation using binaural mics and a dummy head. I also expect that Jana’s expertise (and equipment?) are superior to what they were 4 years ago when video was uploaded. Anyway, the point is, great things are possible if you’re looking to share the experience with a wider but quite knowledgeable audience.
  8. Chris, how cool would it be if you could partner up with videographer/audiophile Jana Dagdagan to document your system. As I'm sure you're aware, Jana used to work for Stereophile magazine and, more recently, has been working with John Darko and others. Here is an example of Jana's beautiful and painstakingly thorough work: And if you're wondering how well surround sound music reproduction can be captured with a binaural dummy head, then you should check out the following video from around 8:15 to 12:20(you can ignore the rest, consisting of a product pitch in French): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7bGrmY0FZQ Short of having an Audiophilestyle open house, this is as close as the rest of us might come to experiencing your system.
  9. Is in excellent condition(9/10, technically speaking, since it is not "New In Box"). Asking for $2000 or best offer. Thanks.
  10. For sale is the Phasure NOS1a G3 DAC, the latest version with Phisolator installed. If you are looking at this ad I will assume that you know about this DAC, its designer Peter Stordiau, and the DACs reputation amongst audiophiles. Requires a Windows PC with XX High End or HQPlayer software. It is in excellent condition(essentially indistinguishable from dead mint condition) and it will come to you double boxed in the original shipping cartons. I am the original and the NOS1a configuration cost me $5864 plus import fees and shipping from the Netherlands to the US. I paid an additional 665 euros plus import fees and roundtrip shipping for upgrading to the G3 plus Phisolator configuration(the current configuration available from Peter). Asking price is $3000. Shipping is $50.00 in the continental United States. Please feel free to email me with questions. Thanks for looking.
  11. SP is a landmark album, regardless of its low fi status. There will never be an audiophile version. In this way it’s similar to the equally low fi and equally iconic Tapestry by Carole King.
  12. Rajiv, I thoroughly enjoyed the article. I did have one question, though. Please correct me if my recollection is faulty but isn't it so that you do your listening at home through a headphone based system? If so, then I suspect that something like the upcoming Smyth Realiser A16 paired with some multichannel classical recordings would really take your at home listening to another level. BTW, if you have a taste for acoustic or slightly amplified jazz performed in a small venue then I would definitely recommend such a concertgoing experience to also help in "recalibrating your ears." In addition, there is nothing to match the dynamic sound of live drums(and piano, as you point out).
  13. I fully agree that the Steven Wilson remixes are uniformly spectacular. Compare them to the provided needle drops(US and UK) and there is no contest.
  14. Back in the seventies I had a lower end Ampex R2R deck which I later replaced with a Revox. I primarily used it for needle drops(and, very occasionally, for live music recordings including bouncing tracks). It was great fun but I no longer own those machines (or the tapes). My understanding is that the owner of J-Corder recommends that his machines be used specifically for the purpose of making and playing back copies of CDs. But then you already know that. You can, of course, spend even more on the pricey R2R hobby by purchasing more expensive decks(e.g., United Home Audio's refurbished Tascams, Sonorus, Metaxas, etc.) and Doshi tube preamps, not to mention "lesser" expenditures such as finely crafted 10 inch reels and also reel locks. Someday some commercial entity will perfect the euphonic tape plug in and make it available to listeners of music in digital formats. That, at least, is my hope and expectation. In the meantime, enjoy your new audiophile niche. I'm truly happy for you.
