  1. Success! I keep forgetting that System Audio is really fussy and effects Exclusive Access mode in A+ -- even if using a separate DAC/Soundcard etc.. I'd had Loopback audio software assigned as output in System Audio and that was preventing exclusive access/DM from being optionable in Audirvana. Selecting >> System Preferences > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers >> did the trick. Cheers for your help above guys.
  2. My mac isn't upgradeable unfortunately.? Ok, thanks for this. I'm probably doing something wrong then.
  3. Appreciate the quick reply RHS..and great that it's working in Mojave. Have you tested it in the latest High Sierra (10.13.6) by any chance?
  4. Has the latest 'Security Update 2018-001 High Sierra' broken the ability to restore DM for anyone else? Tried a couple of times to restore using the El Capitan kext file to no avail.
  5. No worries Phonautograph. Well as to the sound of the A280, I sort of attempted to do that in my last post. I suppose if you haven't heard the amps I've compared it to then you'd naturally have no reference. So I'll have to broaden that characterization by saying that it's generally a well balanced sounding amplifier - nothing is particularly highlighted but everything's there. It's also quite revealing of sources upstream - which is usually a sign of a well designed amp. I have tried a couple of different DACs with it and was easily able to tell the differences between the two. Cable swaps were also qualitatively discernible. I haven't tried a pre-amp in front of it though. Although you could use the regular line-stage inputs the amp also has a single RCA in ie. for the amp to be used as a monoblock. A real shame it doesn't have a stereo set to completely bypass its pre-amp section. As to speakers? Perhaps something of the order of >86db efficiency for starters. I've currently got it hooked up to some ProAc three-way floor standers and it's driving them nicely. I've also had it paired with some Rogers LS 2A book-shelves and it seemed to do fine there as well - although naturally lacking that low-end extension compared to larger speakers. Both of those speakers have that slightly warm and laid back British sound. However, I don't think you can go particularly wrong with 95 percent of the speakers out there. If you don't mind a bit of heat dissipation and waiting some while for it to get up to temp then this amp will not disappoint you sound wise.
  6. I have one. It's a very well built amp and an equally good sounding one. It's a Pure Class A amplifier and does about 120W into 4Ω and slightly more than half that into 8Ω. Being Class A it takes a few hours to get to optimal levels and draws about 300W (8Ω) of power - so yeah it wastes a bit. The heat sinks are large and quite effective at dissipating heat though. In normal room temperature it runs about as warm as most Class A amps. I have never cranked it far enough to engage the cooling fan though. In comparison to other Class As I have on hand, Almarro and Line Magnetic (SET Valves) and a Sugden, it's got a fair amount more heft to the lower end than all of those, not as liquid as the triodes in the midrange, but can image as well as either of them and much better than the Sugden. The soundstage it produces is quite large but slightly recessed. It's definitely got all the qualities of a quality Class A amp - getting close to the music while still sounding relaxed. From what I understand GrandHigh is an obscure high-end manufacturer that hasn't developed any distributors/dealerships overseas. So there's limited info out there about their products. Check out their speaker range for over-engineered, exceptionally finished floor-standers as well. As for the price - I think that's about right for a second-hand one. I'd put it on par with my other amps costing about 2-3K. PM if you need more info OP.
  7. Just an update on my engaging DM travails. I believe I've found the culprit and it's simply the fact that the Preferred Audio Device ie, the DAC or DDC in A+ demands exclusive access and cannot share duties with say System Audio. So make sure another device is assigned to output system audio in System Preferences Sound or in Audio Midi Setup. So the sequential checking of boxes in my post above appears an utterly false solution now and should be dismissed.
  8. Thanks for the reply RHS. I managed to get it going. I think A+ gets itself into a muddle sometimes and won't play in DM although it's available. Your post about unchecking the various options got me thinking that unchecking all the options is like a reset. So I did just that and then started checking them on one by one. First the Exclusive Mode only was checked and the program restarted. I then added Direct Mode to Exclusive mode and restarted. Finally i checked Integer Mode together with EM and DM and got the nested mode 1&2 options ..and the track finally played. I'm not sure if it was the sequence or just unchecking all the options as a soft reset or both that got it to work.
  9. Has this stopped working for anyone else after the latest security update (2017-001) in High Sierra? I have performed the whole kext replacement process twice now with a fresh install of Audirvana as well and can't get Direct Mode to work. I can select Direct Mode on its own but don't get the nested Mode 1 or 2 option...the track loads and plays fine. Is this still Direct Mode? Or I can select Integer Mode together with Exclusive Mode and that plays fine. However when I select Exclusive, Integer and Direct the track loads into memory in Audirvana but will not play.
  10. Yep, working perfectly again ..much thanks Damien.
  11. A+ in iTunes Integrated Mode is crashing for me on the latest version of iTunes (12.4.0 119). The crash happens at the end of the first track played. Crash log attached: Audirvana Plus_2016-05-17-100030_i7.crash.zip
  12. Ha..yes this USB train is getting a tad ridiculous, hopefully some day this will all be incorporated into a DAC - well perhaps it already is at the uber end of the scale idk? As for the configuration? Well it just seems that the Intona is a better galvanic isolator and the REGEN's a better re-clocker..they work quite well in compliment..with the Curious Cable loom providing a robust and transparent link.
  13. I've had one burning in for around 150 hours now and it's been a revelation. It sits at the end of my USB chain and together with the Intona, REGEN and Curious cable loom finally gives me the most 'real' sounding digital signal I've ever had. I'd highly recommend it in it's standalone form or if you don't want to faff about without a case, waiting for the SINGxer SU-1 that comes out next month.
  14. The clicking outside the window hasn't exactly been working has it, hence the suggested dedicated 'hard' button. If Damien can get it to consistently work with a simple click on the window or outside of it then I'm all for it.
  15. Yeah Thanks but that only works on occasion and restarting A+ is usually the only recourse. Perhaps Damien can install a close button on that window when he gets around to it.
