1. OK, I know next to nothing about DACs and computer audio. Just bought a new computer running Win 7. It has onboard audio by Realtek- "HD Audio Manager". I checked the specs and it supports a lot of hi rez formats up to 24/192. I get the sense from what I have read so far that using the on-board audio is not the way to go since no one ever mentions it.

For my edification, could someone briefly explain why it is not the best way to go?

Thanks,

Dan
 2. Chris, I am a newbie and have a 1,000 cds to rip, so this has been the most helpful thing I've come across. I have read it twice and will read it more since I have never done any ripping and not used any of the programs referenced.

I look forward to the hardware article, especially your thoughts on Blue Ray. I was thinking about guying a BD burner and use it for archiving instead of disc storage, which I am wary of.

I assume I could use the basic strategy to burn to a Blue Ray disc (Archive) and to Hard Disk (working copy) simultaneously?

Your efforts are much appreciated.

Dan
