1. Thanks for posting this, I was hesitant to purchase it right away.
2. or even better, the X-Pro 1 that has interchangeable lenses... its a sexy beast.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/01/10/FujifilmXPro1_Preview

Oh, and I hear you loud and clear about not wanting to carry an SLR or the hasselblad with you, Chris. I switched from a Nikon D300 to a Panny GF1 about a year ago, couldn't be happier.

Now, back to audio!
3. Hey Chris, thanks for sharing all of these great photos, I see you were using a great camera/lens combo. The 20mm Panny is a personal favorite, I've been using it for a while with my GF1.
4. Check out the Monitor Audio RX-1, they are surprisingly small, produce a great deal of clean, lump-free bass and could always be used in another room/set-up. $625 for a pair
5. Yes, it is normal depending on configuration. There is an option that allows you to re-enable scrubbing with the iTunes bar as well, open up the preferences and take a look.
6. But I've been snagged this time. Keith, do you understand that you are not contributing to this thread in a helpful manner? This thread is regarding a specific issue that does not pertain to performance differences, there are PLENTY of threads on this site (unfortunately) that ARE in regard to performance differences of cables, I suggest you take your supreme knowledge to one of those threads and leave this thread alone so the OP may get the advice that he asked for. I have visited this site less and less frequently because of these silly "cables don't matter/cables make all the difference" arguments, along with all of the other arguments started by a select number of all-knowing members who do not respect others opinions. Regards, Jason
7. "And you'd think by now, someone at HDT would give a new release a critical listen before unleashing it on the public. Doesn't it make you feel you're like a guinea pig? I've lost interest in their hi-res downloads." - The Hawk My thoughts exactly. I got to the point where I hesitated before following through with a purchase from them, now I just wait and see. More waiting than seeing I must admit. -j.
8. I would actually try a USB to SPDIF converter before I used a third party player. It should have a bigger impact on sound quality as the optical out of any Mac is not of the highest quality. A asynchronous USB to SPDIF converter should afford a great improvement in sound quality.
9. Tonight I'm spinning Keb' Mo' - Keb' Mo' & David Chesky's "Urbanicity" - Concerto for Electric Guitar and Orchestra - The New York Variations
10. excellent, thank you for the responses. I've just been worried about running a bus powered firewire DAC as well as a bus powered USB drive at the same time. Just need to figure out a way to switch the power for the DAC to an external PSU after it syncs with the computer (won't sync on external power alone).
11. Spinoff Question: how much is the power limited to the port (usb or firewire) in any/all of these three situations: 1. battery power 2. demanding load (graphics, CPU, etc.) 3. using an external bus powered USB drive while using firewire to your DAC thanks in advance for any ideas
12. "What about, for example, Audiolab: a British based R&D employing a British / Czech designer, the company owned by the Chineese (IAG) and built in far east..." exactly... there are a few companies that are able to make everything from sources to loudspeakers all in one location and country, but they still have ownership, employees, and components that come to them across the border. It would be nearly impossible for a company to develop the raw materials, the r&d, the design, and the assembly of EVERYTHING that goes into a piece of hi-end gear. And I feel as though "nearly impossible" is a bit of an understatement. just my 2 cents.
13. Try to keep everything in direct multiples of the native rate, so that with 44.1 you should use 88.2 & 176.4, though up/over sampling is not the best thing to do in order to improve the sonics. But to each their own!
