Where do you see that it's up? I just see 1.0.2. Please post a link. Thank you!

    Amarra Issues

Clay-- I do hope your issues get resloved soon, so you can really enjoy the program, rather the music. I appreciate you, as well as other fellow users, keeping us in the loop with regard to bugs, fixes, and quality of ongoing interactions with sonic studio personnel.

    Amarra Issues

If you can hold on, I expect they will offer incremental improvements. Maybe most of the work is going into the full version. When I first began the demo of the full version this summer, there were lots of bugs, so much frustration.

    Amarra Issues

Clay-- Maybe a more sensible comparison to Amarra's benefits to a system is the $2k power cord or the $6k amplifier.....instead of the $16k cables. Same argument, valid, and less exaggerated for you. Please do provide a list of free software players that equal or best Amarra so that I can get my money back. I am having none of the issues you are having. Amarra works as advertised. If it didn't I would be on the phone with them. When I did have an issue, they were helpful. If my issues were not resolved, and were of the ongoing magnitude you are experiencing, I would have asked for my money back awhile ago. Furthermore, my initial post was not directed at you some much, but those who are jumping on your bandwagon so to speak. Folks who haven't tried Amarra, but are providing commentary anyway. No offense taken..

    Amarra Issues

Some of you can bash all you want, but Amarra offers a considerable improvement in SQ (IMO) in comparison to just Itunes on Mac. And, each new Amarra release gets better, less buggy. For me, the newest release, 1.0.2, has been bug free, and is interacting seamlessly with OX and Itunes. To put things in perspective, lets talk about Tara Labs pricing interconnects at $16k per meter. And, Synergistic Research is now coming out with a line of cables that is even more expensive than that! I've paid a lot more than $1k for CDP's, DAC's, power cables, interconnects, etc. I have to say in comparison to other stuff I've tried, owned, used, whatever, Amarra offers great results for your buck. I expect upcoming versions to continue to improve the package.

    Amarra Issues

Clay, Sometimes the volume on Itunes goes to zero, but this never affects playback volume. All of my files are AIFF that were converted using MAX. Amarra has never not played them and there have been no gaps. My concerns: Amarra will restart every song after it has played for 1-2 seconds. And, Amarra's playback will not match Itunes playback periodically, so there is a delay and I hear an echo effect. I rewind the song and it plays properly. I'm told these problems are related to Amarra having trouble operating with Async USB protocol of my WLA USB....something to do with the clock. When I purchased the program, they told me they are aware and working on a fix for the WLA compatibility issue. I haven't downloaded the 10.2 version, but was planning to until now. Maybe I'll wait. Still, I agree SQ is fantastic. Cheers.
  7. Thanks guys....I just took a look @ both of these DAC possiblities and they look like they'd work great. Hmm. Now, to decide which one.
  8. Hi folks, I am in need of a DAC that can accept an optical (Toslink?) cable from a Airport Express. I need something relatively inexpensive , hopefully, and also small that can sit on a dresser with a NHT passive attenuator and a pair of NHT M-00 speakers. Any ideas? Thanks!
  9. Hi Chris --- I just sent you an email. Cheers! Fred
  10. This article is bullshit! I have compared my Wavelength Crimson with many hi-end CD players and it sounds excellent, even better than these CDP's. Unfortuantely I have not compared it to FW. But certainly, USB implemented properly is not mediocre as this guy claims. There is a good thread on audioasylum detailing the inadequacies and inconsistancies related to this lame article. Cheers!
  11. I have the Crimson with volume control. It is in the analog domain. There is a volume knob on the DAC. Gordon uses a very high quality volume control, although I can't recall the name of it. There used to be a remote control option, but I think that is no longer available. When you use either of these DAC's, Crimson + Cosecant, it is recommended the digital volume available within Itunes and your computer remain adjusted all the way up. This way, there will be zero signal degradation within the computer. And, volume can then be adjusted via the DAC or preamp in the case of non volume units. The proton volume control operates differently in comparison, although I'm not sure how exactly, so i won't comment. As far as outputs, the Crimson and Cosecant only come with 1 set of RCA outputs. Although, Gordon also makes a balanced version of the Crimson upon request, which comes with a set of RCA, as well as XLR, outputs. Maybe the Cosecant can be made to come in balanced form. I'm not sure. Again, not sure about the Proton.
  12. Sorry, this isn't necessarily an audiophile question...more of a please help me with a presentation question.... but this may help someone some day pull HD audio off of a DVD.....so I justify it's relevance! --- Thanks in advance to those who answer.. So, I'm trying to retrieve about 10 minutes of video and audio from the DVD, Something About Mary, (the pork and beans scenes) to store as a video file on my Mac to incorporate into a presentation on male genital trauma suffered from zippers. Yep, no joke here. Can I retrieve the video? If so, does anyone know of a cheap way to do it? I'd rather not pay $$$ just to retrieve 10 min of vid. Thanks again.
