  1. Greetings, I'm having a problem with 24/96 files played back through my Wavelength Proton. I've hooked it up and setup several PCs: a MacMini, MacBook Pro, and 3 Windows 7 PCs (2 home brew) and a Vista laptop. I setup JRMC 15 (WASAPI) on the Windows 7 PCs and iTunes w/Ammara on the MacMini and plain old iTunes on the MBP. In every case when I play back 24/96 files I get a hiss that sounds like tape hiss. This is noticable on essnetially every file I had with 24/96, some 24/96 are rather busy rock and I can't notice the hiss, but it's also likely because there's no quiet passages to let it through. Now when I playback the same files at 48Khz, the hiss is gone. 24/88.2 files seem fine. As do 16/44.1 files. I've been testing mainly through headphones as they are portable(Sennheiser HD600s) but the hiss is apparent in my main stereo as well. I have contacted Mr Rankin and he's been very helpful, but still haven't figured out exactly what's going on. Anyone experience anything similar? I really like the Proton, only 24/96 files have problems and the rest sounds great, better than I've heard before from my system. FYI here's the rest of my gear in the main stereo. Sonic Frontiers Line-2, SMc/McCormack DNA-125 Platinum Plus, Magnestand modded Magnepan MG1.6s, AudioKinesis Swarm bass system.
