Geoff thanks for your useful observations. How do you find the sound? I started to think it was a bit " tone control" in operation . Some of the settings i used even made the sound a bit mono like. I guess there are so many options it's just as easy to get it wrong as right.

This was posted on another forum- it explains the complexity of the player, which is quite unique, and very good sounding. Actually its more than very good..... A Russian thread has about 74 pages on this player. On this page http://forum.doctorh...c=24713&st=1650 someone is trying to explain this player with pictures. Run it through translator, see if it makes sense. " It is not simple to understand . The main difference is that the author, Hiroyuki , considering the source format 441000/16 not as a model , but as a lossy format . Accordingly, all these Black, Emerald , armor and other - these are very sophisticated algorithms restore lost when digitizing information. It uses spline interpolation , and as a model of multiple - model schemes recording and CD production . Accordingly, a huge load on the processor. On a button - start when the first dialog box buttons and hold Shift + Z mode is activated Z-tune ( only on 64 bit systems and 8 gigs of memory ) , which optimizes the algorithm of memory , then the choice of ASIO or WASAPI output. First preferred. After self window. Starting with version 2.92 of the dialogue removed buttons that are not harnessing the specific modes. Normal - mode output similar to Foobar and differs mainly in algorithms only work with memory. Modes with sound BufHead - a bit about them . top row - selection X1 X2 X4 X8 - degree sampling transition , Basik, Emerald, ... Brownie- level and signal processing . LPF-free and under it - filtering the output signal different algorithms Free- unfiltered - important - if filtering is enabled it is necessary to ensure that the level would not exceed the maximum allowable . Self sound optimaiser- create their own algorithms image 1 - mode volume control output -AUTO player will reduce the volume if it is outside the permitted , pressing aotklyuchaet automatic control , then a box under a continuation of the arrow indicates the maximum output level for a particular algorithm - for example Browine 5x2 it will be 13 , he should be put on the volume image Next 2 - allows you to select the size of the cluster and the precision of the calculation for the spline interpolation , the higher accuracy and the more stages , the more accurate the result and the more demand resources. ( Workstation 6 on two nuclear Cheon loaded at 100% and believes the sound is 180-300 seconds at the maximum values of the image ) 3 - selection phase of the output signal 4 - Select the algorithm clear memory 9 different types of memory are different algorithms provide the highest quality sound , empirically ) 5 - choice player in the harnessing of cores and threads 6 - Select the processed sound Bagh- HS - output sound from Bug LV5- maximum BUG LV1- minimal - mode Self sound optimizer has the ability to export the processed stream player in crude RAW file for export WAV data from it and the possibility to listen to any player . There is no support CUE!!! image

Any body used this, and in particular anybody who can translate the manual. Very interesting player with a zillion options, but not user or English friendly.
  4. Thanks for all the interesting input, will check it out.
  5. I find myself listening to vinyl less and less, as I'm smitten by Amarra's Symphony using its IRC digital room/speaker/impulse correction. Obviously I can't put a vinyl analog signal into Amarra , I could use an ADC to make digital files of a vinyl rip, but I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to use a simple, very high quality ADC with USB and get it to work real time into something like Amarra, ie direct analog from a phono preamp into an ADC straight into a media player, and then into a dac . No files . Is this possible? If possible I could then have the pleasure of using my vinyl setup with the very best digital sound.
  6. I also think the Dirac "processor" cuts dynamics, in truth I think it's rubbish. I heard some genuine improvements in sound but at too high a price in terms of overall sound quality. But recognizing that there was something good in there I tried Amarra Symphony with Dirac's IRC. This doesn't use Dirac processor, and is in a different league, i think it is a quantam shift in computer audio, it is so good. If you want the ultimate in speaker/room "correction" (wrong word, but will do) you have to bite the bullet and get Symphony.
  7. I did another measurement yesterday, and IRC wanted me to update, a window came up, but then disappeared again. Anyone know anything about this?
  8. I had Dirac on Windows, got it to work no problem. Cant get IRC on Symphony to complete Event Log (blue bar lower left window) Get to save filter, but it wont load into Symphony IRC. Two emails, no response from Amarra, went through the same being kept on hold to get activation codes. Their support sucks. $800 Australian for a software program, and they cant provide decent support for it. Its a great sounding player I really want to buy, but what happens if something goes wrong? Trial will be up soon , so I guess I will just delete it.
  9. Finally got the email with codes, so all is good, cant wait to try IRC, regardless, I'm going to buy Symphony as nothing else gets close to it re sound quality. But jeez wouldn't it be perfect if it had the library management of JRiver?
  10. Yes I have a nomber of mics, all calibrated, and will use a minidsp umik-1 if I get to try IRC. BTW, I stumbled upon Symphony because I tried Dirac trial, and while I thought the DSP room correction was very interesting and showed great potentional, I thought the Dirac "processor" ie the actual player was rubbish, it cut the dynamics down to the level of mp3 and is a long way behind any of the decent media players. ( you can't siimplybtoggle the filters on and off to compare as you are still in the processor, you have to leave the "processor" and go back to your regular software player. Be prepared to be surprised) But I liked the potentional of IRC so much I looked into Amarra with IRC, so far I haven't been able to try the room correction but I'm blown away by the sound quality of Amarra 2.6. Love to know how they do it, I have a sneaking suspicion it may not be totally accurate, but it sure sounds good.
  11. Yes that is what happened, no activation codes, no replies to emails, support requests. Best digital I've ever heard, worst support I've had from software audio company, but none of them are very good. However, Amarra is 10 times more expensive, you'd think they're try to justify it.
  12. ???? Where did I say they ignore every other user? I mentioned my case only, but seeing as how you brought it up, there are several other posts on this thread about no answer from SonicStudio. Its a great program, easily the best sounding and I intend to buy it, but my trial is running out fast, and I cant access IRC. Frankly for the money, you'd expect a reply within a reasonable time.
  13. I downloaded the trial, never used Amarra before. I received an email thanking me for downloading, but no activation codes. I've spent hours on the SonicStudio website looking for answer and no help there, I'm not exactly an inexperienced CA guy, been using it since the start.
  14. I have the same problem, can't use IRC as it requests a username password, I recall the website said that sonic studio would email this, but no email, no reply to requests for help, Is there a way to get software to release IRC? Been using JRiver for years, but symphony is amazing sound, can't wait to try the IRC.
