  3. I was also fortunate to participate in the beta testing group. Throughout it’s development, I experienced how much PGGB evolved and improved with each version. At 64-bit precision I was extremely happy, and never gave any thought to wanting more. My focus then was upgrading the computer in order to improve processing time performance. Later in development, we were pleasantly surprised when 128-bit precision and 192-bit precision arrived. I was impressed with how much those were both noticeable improvements in sound quality. And I eventually had a couple hundred albums processed at 64 and 128 bits. Similar to @kennyb123 my Mac Studio M1 Ultra with 128 GB was able to process a good amount of music at P128 and P192, but it was slow and struggled with longer tracks. As a result, I found myself considering the purchase of a dedicated high-powered PGGB computer. But then the remarkable happened when @Zaphod Beeblebrox mentioned he had yet another idea for improving the application. Say what? Flash forward in time ... and PGGB-256 has now offered up yet another sonic improvement with even more transparency, density, timbre, soundstage, layering, and realism. The jump in sonic quality from native files, to those earlier versions, and now PGGB-256 is astonishing. And as @austinpop pointed out, the other major benefit is a dramatic improvement in performance, making it possible to process files comfortably on a consumer desktop. That eliminated my fantasy for acquiring some kind of server class computer. Having already experienced the benefits in each evolution of precision, when the improved sound quality and performance of PGGB-256 arrived, it was an easy decision to make, and I paid for the upgrade as soon as it became available. I’ve now begun reprocessing the music library that I originally went through, but in much less time, and all at 256-bit precision. Such an amazing accomplishment. And so congratulations to @Zaphod Beeblebrox!!! If you have any interest, as an existing user considering the upgrade, or as a new user considering PGGB-256 from the start, I highly recommend that you give it a try! I am grateful that it exits.

  5. Once upon a time... A novel way to massively improve the SQ of computer audio streaming Became a thing. Within that thread I encountered a tremendous learning curve following the research of @austinpop @ray-dude and @romaz. While exploring the landscape of network switches, power supplies, clocks, cards, cables, DACs and NUCs... my audio system evolved to levels of wonderful I’d not experienced before. Flash forward three years to June 2020 and the biggest upgrade I’ve experienced arrives all at the same time! The Chord DAVE, Sean Jacobs DC4, Taiko Audio Extreme, and Omega CAMs. The COVID lockdown was my excuse. A couple of weeks pass by, I contact Roy to praise the musical experience, and the last thing I expect to hear about is some crazy “offline remastering project.” But of course I am all ears, and he kindly offers to process some sample tracks for an audition. The day after I receive those tracks, I send Roy a message with something like... “This is phenomenal! How can I have more?” I immediately compensate the developer to encourage further development, and am thankful for the opportunity to participate in the beta testing group. (background story here) Rajiv has described the benefits so well, that I’ve got nothing to add. As mentioned before, this originated as a Chord DAVE driven project, so it’s likely the ideal DAC for PGGB remastered files. But other DAC owners have experienced benefits too. If you are curious, my suggestion is simply to hear this for yourself. (areas of improvement here) Regarding storage, I am currently using the “jukebox” approach. As a first step, I followed an idea suggested by Emile at Taiko Audio — to scan through the library and quickly divide albums into an “A List” and “B List.” If an album was available on Qobuz, I added it to Favorites, and deleted it from the Extreme’s 8TB of storage. If I knew an album was a high priority for PGGB remastering, I added it to the “A List.” After the scan was complete, I began the process of remastering those “A List” albums. They are stored on the jukebox — a Lacie d2 Professional 16TB drive — and then copied onto the Extreme. (jukebox idea here) Since then my listening process has become similar to the one described by Ray — exploring my music collection again, album by album. It definitely reminds me of those vinyl days, with that stack of albums in heavy rotation close to the turntable, and the wall of albums library off to the side. The end result is that I am discovering new levels of enjoyment with the music I’ve loved my entire life. (Ray’s story here) -Gerry
  6. P.S. I did not notice your signature, and did not realize you are the developer of HQPlayer.
  7. Thank you for the feedback. After posting the above inquiry, I did play the same albums with HQPlayer Desktop, and the album cover art did not display. So I now suspect the problem is with HQPlayer Desktop and not HQPDcontrol. HQPlayer Client has never opened since the day I installed HQPlayer 4 Desktop, and I receive an error message instead. That's why I've used HQPDcontrol on the iPad. I've previously contacted Jussi at Signalyst, and Emile at Taiko Audio, but things are still a mystery. I've been playing music just fine without HQPlayer Client, so I am just focused on the cover art issue. The cover art files are almost all 1000x1000 pixels and either 72 or 96 dpi, with a few files at 600x600 pixels. I did conduct an interesting test, in which I replaced the cover art file that would not display, with the cover art file from a different artist/album that does display. But even then, that proxy cover art does not display from within the problem album. I then replaced the entire album with a fresh copy, thinking perhaps somehow the album folder was corrupted. But with no success. Last night I imported 12 new albums, and none of them display the cover art. Next I'll contact Jussi at Signalyst to see what ideas he may have.
  8. I have been using HQPDcontrol iOS on iPad with not problems, but now have an issue with some cover art not displaying. Over time I have been adding music files to HQPlayer 4 Desktop. After each import I have: 1) Selected a "Clean scan" of the music library in HQPlayer 4 Desktop 2) Selected “Syncing the HQPlayer Library” in HQPDcontrol After those two steps the album cover art has always been displayed in HQPDcontrol. All cover art files are either “cover.jpg” or “cover.png" But after the last import of music files, there are three albums that do not display the cover art. Instead, those three albums have the square green DA musical note icon. In HQPDcontrol I have also tried selecting “Clear cover art disk cache” followed by “Syncing the HQPlayer Library”, but this did not fix the problem. Is there something else I should try? Thanks!
  9. I do not think this is an Innuos issue. Within Roon, using the Synology NAS hostname worked for a long time. But as of last summer it stop working, and the workaround since then has been to use the IP address. (see the Roon forum topics I linked to above) Not sure whether this was due to a Synology DSM update, macOS update, Roon update, or some combination. And so for Roon external storage, you have to assign a static IP address to the Synology NAS. In macOS Catalina, I can still connect to the Synology NAS with its hostname — “smb://synology” or “afp://synology.local” — both of those being recommended within the Synology NAS Control Panel > File Services. Although last October, this article was posted online: Connection Problem Between Synology NAS and macOS Catalina ... with the conclusion that connecting via SMB using the IP address was the most reliable solution. Example: “smb://192.168.0.10” However I've found that using AFP, the native file sharing protocol, to have the best performance. See this article: AFP vs. SMB and NFS File Sharing for Network Clients Thank you. That's the kind of clue I was looking for. If you are successfully backing up to the QNAP using its hostname, I would presume that points the finger at the Synology. I had tried this before, but with no success — creating a sub-folder “Backup” within the NAS shared folder “ZENITH”. But because the Innuos Configure Backup process states: “Enter the Server Name of your NAS into the hostname field. The name must be identical to how it appears on your network.” ... I entered the hostname “synology”, and the shared folder “ZENITH”, but after entering the User/Password, received the error message: “The server had a system error. Please restart the server and try again.” Because of the Roon experience described above, I started the process over. But this time entered the server IP address instead of the hostname. That successfully reached the page “Choose folder for backup” with “Root > Backup” folder displayed. At that time I must have misunderstood the instructions to “choose folder”, thinking since “Backup” was the only sub-folder listed below “Root”, there was nothing to choose. And perhaps also thinking, since there was no button to select next to the sub-folder, there was no action to take. So I selected “NEXT” to proceed and then received the error message again. After reading your comments above, I decided to try the process again. Entered the IP address instead of the requested Server Name, but when I reached the “Choose folder for backup” window, I actually clicked on the sub-folder “Backup” and voila! It configured the backup path! Innuos > Music Library > Configure Backup > Network Folder: //192.168.0.10/ZENITH/Backup So thank you both for your comments. It motivated me to try yet again! I will now run the Backup process and see what happens.
  10. Continuing my exploration of this issue with the Hostname and Synology NAS. With InnuOS version 1.4.3 There are two locations where the user can input the NAS shared folder path by entering the server name or its IP address: 1) Configuring Your Server > Music Library Configuration 2) Configuring Your Server > Integrating Music From a NAS Shared Folder But the Configure Backup process states: "Enter the Server Name of your NAS into the hostname field. The name must be identical to how it appears on your network.” I have inquired with Innuos Support if they could modify the Configure Backup process, so that it would also work by entering the server name or its IP address. And if they could add that change to InnuOS version 1.4.4. This might provide a solution to the Hostname issue. I have not received a reply from Support regarding my inquiries. But given the COVID19 situation, patience is key.
  11. I recently posted a topic in the Roon Community forums about the Synology NAS Hostname no longer working in Roon > Settings > Storage. And there was another topic on that subject dating back to last summer. Roon does not add Synology shared folder via Hostname No longer connecting to SMB shares on Synology via Hostname Attempting to add a Synology NAS shared folder using the Hostname fails with an error message. smb://synology/Music But when you use the IP address instead of Hostname, the Synology NAS shared folder is added successfully. smb://192.168.0.10/Music I wonder if this same issue is the reason I can not configure a backup to the Synology NAS shared folder within Innuos Settings? Music Library Configuration The Innuos online manual section: Configuring Your Server > Music Library Configuration Describes adding a NAS shared folder to the Innuos server, by entering the server name or its IP address, and then the path to the folder containing the music. Integrating Music From a NAS Shared Folder The Innuos online manual section: Configuring Your Server > Integrating Music From a NAS Shared Folder Describes integrating a NAS shared folder into the Music Library by inputing the server name or its IP address, and then the path to the folder you'd like to add. However ... Both of those steps require access to the section: Settings > Music Library > Configure NAS Shared Folders Which is not available if you have chosen Roon as the Music Server Integration. And the Configure Backup process states: "Enter the Server Name of your NAS into the hostname field. The name must be identical to how it appears on your network."
  12. Has anyone had success configuring a NAS backup? I can successfully backup to an external USB drive, but when I go through the Configure Backup steps for Network Folder, the process fails: "The server had a system error. Please restart the server and try again. If the problem persists please contact Innuos Support ([email protected])" I've reached out to Innuos Support. Innuos 1.4.3 MacOS 10.15.4 SOtM sNH-10G Switch Synology Model: DS1815+ Current DSM Version: DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4
  13. Thank you Josh. I looked closely at the files on my archive drive, and was surprised to find two copies of So. Somehow I'd completely forgotten about this. PG1 (WAVE 24/96, Date Created 04/01/15) PG2 (WAVE 24/96, Date Created 04/01/15) PG3 (WAVE 24/96, Date Created 04/09/15) PG4 (WAVE 24/96, Date Created 04/02/15) So (WAVE 24/96, Date Created 08/04/16) So (FLAC 24/48, Remastered 2012, Date Created 10/15/12) Up (WAVE 24/44, Date Created 08/04/16) Us (WAVE 24/96, Date Created 08/04/16) When I purchased the collection of 180 gram Vinyl 45RPM Half-Speed Remasters with Hi-Res Download Cards, the downloads resulted in .zip files that unpacked into WAVE files. So I must have purchased the FLAC version of So independently, and probably before (?) the Vinyl Collection was made available. Does that look like the correct one? Thanks!
  14. "...the TBVO crown for Peter Gabriel’s So is resoundingly awarded to the ‘12 hi-res download." Great article! But by the time I got to the punch line I'd lost track of the contenders. Perhaps due to a late night read. I purchased the collection of 180 gram Vinyl 45RPM Half-Speed Remasters specifically to get access to the the Hi-Res Download Cards that were included. (Peter Gabriel 1, Peter Gabriel 2, Peter Gabriel 3, Peter Gabriel 4, So, Up, Us). I don't own a turntable. Are those downloads the same as the TBVO crown quoted above? Thanks in advance! P.S. those LPs are available for sale if anyone's interested. They've never been played and I never got around to listing them anywhere.
  15. Never mind. After clicking on the blue button "Listen on Qobuz" approximately 37 times... it finally opened up inside my Qobuz account on a web browser. Sheesh! I was then able to subscribe and it's now available within Roon.
