1. I also noticed it took a little time for my DacMagic to settle down. I've had it for over a year now and I feed it music files from a PC via a Juli@ card playing high resolution FLAC files. It sounds wonderful. And, I know that high resolution digital music is the future, not only because of its ease of distribution but especially because of the very high quality of sound reproduction it provides.

I expect that I will upgrade at some point, but I feel no urgency to do that at the moment. Maybe I'll upgrade when Cambridge Audio introduces a DAC that directly converts files at 192k.

Michigan Man
 2. I finally got around to installing the Juli@ card. I am not technically proficient, but the card went into my Dell PC without a problem. But, I had difficulty making it work properly. And getting technical support is hard. I was able to get some help via email to the UK but the time difference only allows for one or two exchanges per day. ESI told me that the distributor is equipped to help me but the US distributor had no clue and told me they only sell them. All in all, I am now able to output 24/96 music files via the S/PDIF output of the Juli@ to the corresponding input of my DacMagic. After downloading some 24/96 PCM files from iTrax, the listening was hugely better. The trouble is that I am attemping to slave the Juli@ to the DacMagic's clock without success. I am not having any success with the instructions I getfrom the manual or from ESI and now have no idea how to get that done. By the way, the Juli@ was designed to do much more than I need it for and was clearly well designed and manufactured. I am sure that all this difficulty must be on my end but it is also clear that ESI has assumed their target market is much more technically capable than I am. I'm just a listener trying to hear it better. Michigan Man
 3. Chris - I have ordered the ESi Juli@ card. When I get it (it's currently back ordered), I'll let you know how it works out in feeding my Dac Magic with raw 24/96 files from my Dell computer. Thanks for your help.
 4. Renerator - Go to the links provided by Jens in this thread. It appears that the mods will cost a high percentage of the DAC Magic's orginal price. I'm tempted, though.

Chris - is there any chance you can compare the "before and after mods" to the DAC Magic for us?

Thanks,
 5. Being from Michigan, I need to save my money. But I also like to relax into good music. I recently stepped into the digital world by unboxing an unused Dell desktop PC I had in my basement for use as a music server. I bought the Cambridge Audio DAC Magic and connected it via USB and then into my main system. And, I like the results. Digital music sounds better than I have heard it before. Now, I want to listen to some high resolution music but the DAC Magic's USB input won't support it. I suppose I need to install a sound card in my PC that can output raw, high resolution files to the DAC Magic via its coax or toslink inputs. I want to do that as inexpensively as possible. Can anyone recommend such a device that I can install in my PC with minimal complications? Thanks,
