  1. Mourip - Hah, that's good! Better than my spelling!
  2. The seller for the Terminator has now gotten back to me and tells me that the Amanero USB driver supports ASIO, KS and WASABI in Windows 7, 8 & 10. I think I will order one. I will let you know how I like it. They are back ordered until March so it will be a bit. Thanks!
  3. I am considering purchasing a Denafrips Terminator Dac, to be served by my AO/MS Server Essentials 2012 server and want it to be able to run in core mode. The supplied USB drivers look to be a either an Amanero for Windows 8, or an Amanero for Windows 10. Will this work? Which driver should I use? Thanks for you help! Randy
  4. Alex - I am patiently looking forward to hearing one (or two) in my systems, so I'll take some of those chips off your hands soon. Your story of the ISO development is fascinating... Here's to listening! Randy
  5. Thanks, Chris! Reading more closely, your review said it, and I just missed it. Duh! Randy
  6. Chris - Have really enjoyed this review, and the YGGY and AO reviews! I was wondering you (or anyone) has tried / had success connecting the BADA USB Converter to AO? (Thus allowing connection of the Hegel and YGGY docs to AO via the BADA.)
  7. I have two existing (W7, W8.1 servers) in use, and currently have the parts on order for a new third server to have 2012 Server+AO. For my existing W7, W8.1 servers, I will want go to go to W10 + AO. So I would use both flavors. Thanks! Randy
  8. I recently installed a JS-2 to power the CAPS-3 Carbon in my Den system. 12v to the MB and 9v to the SOtM USB. I, too, noticed a big settling in after about 200-300 hours. Before that it was better than my old power supply, but it hadn't blown my mind, yet. And then it happened. I was listening one night and I realized that everything had changed. It was if I had never heard ANY of my music before. I was immersed in a new experience that captivated my attention. I could describe it as a significant change in sound stage, tone, PRAT, detail, musicality, etc. But the bottom line is my system really jumped into a different league. Now I am looking forward to my listening sessions taking me to an altered state... Thanks Alex & John! Randy
  9. Distinctive - Thanks for the confirmation that the DS is compatible with my upstream gear (an OR5). Ksalno - Yes, the OR5 is getting long in the tooth, and doesn't do DSD. I have been on the sidelines with DSD because of that, and want to experience the new technology. I'm guessing the CAers that are into DSD are contributing to this thread, so I'm hoping to learn here. My prior impression is that connecting via I2S to my DAC2 gives a more direct path to the DAC chip, and bypasses the other input circuitry on the DAC and which themselves subsequently connect into the I2S. My thinking is that the higher quality converter gets the DAC2 DSDse to hit above it's price class. So in my limited thinking, I am not at all surprised by your experience as it mirrors mine... My great respect for the I2S connection kindles in me a desire to hear the DS connected by it, thinking it will widely surpass my current rig and offer DSD, too. Now let me offer a lot of caveats, here. I am no expert, and these are just my amateur impressions, and of course, don't necessarily relate to the DS at all, which I have not heard, and is in another league altogether. I fully expect that what you have experienced with the DS will have another explanation entirely, given its already wide ranging experience in the market and rave reviews. However, I thought it would be interesting to share my experience as grist to stimulate discussion about the I2S connection. But your experience DOES suggest to me that the combination that you heard reviewed is very top tier... Thanks, and Merry Christmas, Randy
  10. Ted, et al - I am familiar with the benefits of the I2S connection as I have been using it as my preferred interface between an Off Ramp 5 and a Wired 4 Sound DAC2 DSD se in my den system. I am fascinated by your wonderful review of the Direct Stream, and wonder if I could just plug my HDMI cable directly into a Direct Stream, if it would work, and how it might compare? Thanks for your many posts/reviews I have enjoyed over the years! Randy
  11. I just went to that site that I posted, and their way of getting to the initialization window wasn't so obvious on my computer. Here's another way that just worked for me: Open control panel Then double click on administrative tools Then double click on computer management Then double click on disk management (on the lower left of the window) You are there... Randy
  12. Jock - The spot to initialize a hard disk is kind of hidden. Here is a way to get there in W8: How to Add a Hard-drive to Windows 8 A couple of other tips: On the initialization window I found that the hard drive with the operating system is labeled "0" and the one to be initialized is "1". (I was worried at first that I might mess up my main drive by choosing "1".) When the new drive is initialized you are half way there. Next you have to allocate the disk. There is an option for that in the initialization window. I just wanted a single volume (or some such name) and not divided so I took the upper menu option, and then I think it assigned a single drive letter, and was done, and I was good to go. If you need any further help, please post back. Randy
  13. liddown - Thanks for your post. I have your same setup, and my DAC2DSD-se is on the truck going for the FEMTO... I was pleased with the sound before, and while eager for improvement, also had some worries that I might not like the upgrade as much. Your post reassures me. Thanks! I have at least a week to wait, and am now happily looking forward to the return. Do keep me/us posted on what you are hearing! FYI, I recently got the power supply for the OR5, and it was a nice improvement, too, but not as reasonable as the FEMTO! Randy
  14. Elberoth - I was under the impression WS 2012 is 64 bit, and the DN2800MT is / or is supported for 32 bits only. But as my CAPS-2 runs W7 64, I am going to try running the WS 2012 on there. There is a thread here discussing a guy doing that. I am curious how you are getting it to run? Randy
