  1. My unit has frozen during firmware update to V1.5. After nearly 1 hour and no restart, I unplugged it since the manual said the update would fail and start again when powered up. That was a mistake. Now I have a white screen and power button and control disc are still unresponsive. Put in a ticket to Grimm. Any ideas?
  2. I have purchased 2 albums that fit into this category: Peter Frampton and Stevie Ray Vaughn/Albert King. HD Tracks is unwilling to let me download at the correct sampling rate, in fact they do not even sell the second album anymore. My question is: Can I just use DB Poweramp to down sample? This appears easy to do. I feel if I just leave the files it's just a waste of space. Any help is appreciated.
  3. Chris-<br /> What is the reason that the review sample included the U-clock instead of the Paganini master clock? Is it because the U-cock is adequate in the absence of a transport?<br /> <br /> Thanks,<br /> <br /> Alan
  4. I have had a Linn Klimax DS for about 10 months now. It has lived up to and beyond my expectations. Linn has made significant efforts with frequent firmware support and trying to upgrade the user interface. While I have not had any trouble using Twonky (Upnp) solution, it remains a potential problem to users of Netgear ReadyNas. After much pontification about which DAC solution I should use, I went with the Linn DS for the same reasons Andrew did. My music is 100% WAV with fully functional tags and cover art.
  5. I just got word from The Elusive Disc that the Mono Box sets are limited but NOT numbered. They also added that they were produced in Japan and sound excellent. They gave me an option to refuse it--but I still opted to take it. They go on to say that no one knew about this until they received them and physically inspected it.
  6. The elusive disc still has Mono and Stereo Boxes. I just ordered a Mono set plus the last 3 albums. Here is a link to the Mono set.<br /> <br /> http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=EMICDB99451

  8. I will be converting my collection from FLAC to WAV. Please, I do not want to start a debate on this. Lets say I hear a difference. My question is: should I rip everything again or is is safe to convert between formats using dBpoweramp? My whole collection with the exception of less then 10 discs is accurately ripped and the remainer are securely ripped. I have done tests (checking CRC 32 calculation) and it appears to be exact copies, and will certainly be faster. I have also straightened out the WAV tagging issues--my twonky server reads all the tags (dBpoweramp writes both LIST and ID3v2 tags to WAV files) and they are perfectly displayed on all control points. This is my second time around so I obviously do not want to do it again. Thanks in advance.
  9. I have owned the Hybrid SACD for over a year and it is one of my favorite CDs. I naturally ripped it to my collection when I switched to a music server a few months ago. The sound got even better on my system even over the SACD version. I just downloaded the first three 24/96 tracks. Not surprisingly the sound is better: more refined, more air around the instruments, different nuances to the voices and instruments. On track #1 the voices are much more distinct and separate. On track #2 there is an open, more natural sound to Jane's voice. And on track #3 the plucking of the guitar strings is so real, it is as if I was at the session. Amazing work--highly recommended, especially if your system is very resolving. I'll be downloading the rest as it becomes available. Thanks!
  10. Does anyone have any experience with these types of devices? The device is set up at the router point by an ethernet cable and plugged into the power outlet. At the receiving end a similar hookup would then go into the DAC by ethernet cable. The data streams over the power lines in your walls. I have an ethernet DAC that requires a wired connection and this would allow me to move the NAS and all the associated stuff (gigabit switch, airport extreme, router, and APC-UPS backup to another room. I am concerned most about quality of the sound and do not want even the chance of a compromise. My system sounds amazing, but I can occasionally hear the fan on the NAS going. There are a couple of brands available on Amazon as well as an explanation on the product pages. Thanks!
  11. I ran a test period for a whole week comparing wav, aiff, and flac before I started to rip permanently. I have somewhat of a different system than everyone else since my dac is ethernet based and has a large buffer which makes the decoding issue irrelevant. I frankly could not hear the difference. I ended up settling with flac as the tagging was more robust. My Linn Klimax DS also will scroll on the display the song, artist and album for each song with flac but could not with aiff or wav. In fact I was able to rip and listen to music at the same time with no adverse effect. I am a mac person to the core, but ended up buying a netbook for ripping purposes and used DB poweramp to rip. If I were running a different type of system I would have used aiff. Just thought I would contribute my experience as it is different than everyone else.
  12. Thanks Chris. I just wanted to be sure. I had spent an entire week doing test ripping in different formats and set ups to work the bugs out. I then reset the nas and ripped away with no problems. I'm a mac person myself but went with the current configuration to ensure that the rips were pristine. I'm now left with less than 20 disks that either are scratched or have tagging problems. I will either borrow or replace the important ones. My macbook and netbook integrate well together on the network.
  13. I have nearly completed my ripping process using a dedicated netbook with an external hard drive using the secure mode of dbpoweramp into flac. I am using a hardwired connection with shielded CAT 6a throughout to my readynas duo via a gigbit ethernet switch. I upgraded the memory of the nas from 256mb to 1gb. I was able to listen to my system while ripping and have not experienced a problem. Now I have read that you should not do it this way. I have read in more than one forum that you should rip to a separate hard drive and then transfer to the nas. I never once received an error message and had the error checking on for the flac encoder. Should I be concerned? I spent 2 weeks doing this and only have a few disks left to go. I will begrudgingly repeat the process if I have to...but my system sounds so spectacular that I rarely turn on the TV now. I just want to ensure that I completed the archiving process without error. When I'm done ripping my cds I want to move on the hi res material of which I downloaded one 88.2/24 file already (phenomenal). Any advice?
  14. I would be interested in hearing how the dCS Scarlatti upsampler sounds using the USB input with the Scarlatti DAC and master clock.
  15. Did you connect the Minerva DAC to your Macbook pro via firewire?
