  1. Yes it used to work I could see my receiver display the logo. Actually after more research it seems that it works really bad in mac and is broken most of the time. In addition it may work or not based on the driver used by the device and apparently the hiface does not implement this well for mac. However after many trials I managed to make it work BUT only through quicktime with perian : the logo DTS displays again, but not through VLC and others (plex...) as they see that the audio device is setup as stereo (no other choice) and therefore decode it and send stereo only. However quicktime for 1080p is painful as you need to wait for the movie to load first otherwise it is unstable and slows down / drops frames.
  2. I need help to make my m2tech work again with multichannel for movies. Basically since I switched from my old mac mini to the new mac mini (the hdmi one) I have problems when watching movies through VLC as I only get stereo output and there seems to be no way to select anything else. The sound does go through the hiface to the receiver but only as stereo. It used to work fine with my previous mac mini but cant figure out the difference... I have it configure in audio midi setup and when i right click on it to select "configure speakers" it only offers stereo setup. Do other people have the same, is it normal ? Is there something else to do to be able to pass DTS and such... ? Thanks for your help !
  3. Hi, I do not know if this is due to my setup (I think) but I am not able to make any difference with ITunes (volume max) and Amarra or PM. My suspicion is that it is due to the system I use, ie Mac Mini (or Macbook pro 13) feeding into a Meridian sound processor via firewire and Meridian DSP8000 speakers. They integrate a lot of technology already, digital sound processing, reclock... so it probably annihilates any effect that these softwares add to itunes, does that make sense ? (from what I can read, nobody clearly knows what these softwares are doing...) Let me know what you think, but I just did extensive testing with PM, with the mac mini and macbook pro, with itunes alone, and with amarra (demo version)
  4. Hi, I finally made my choice : new Macbook pro 13 inch + firewire cable + Saffire Le (convert firewire to spdif) + coaxial cable onto the speakers. I will probably add a NAS to store the music and access it from the Macbook. Thanks all for your help !
  5. 2 answers and already two different opinions, that's the beauty of audio... Option 3 seems good as well, only difference with 1 is the firewire vs usb Option 4 : i have a question, the optical output from the macbook probably comes from a card which quality is not as good as a Lynx, so isnt it a lower quality option. Thanks for your answers.
  6. Hi, I recently bought the Meridian DSP5200 speakers (after i just missed a nice offer on DSP8000 so until I can find one again I will use these speakers) and want to use computer lossless music as my only music source. I have spent lots of time reading forums and here what seem the best options for me, but I would like someone experimented to confirm / improve my options please : 1. Solution 1 is laptop (probably new macbook pro 13 inch) outputint to USB, using the HagUSB to coaxial (the M-audio transit can only output optical from what I understood) and then into the speakers. Cables used would be Kimber USB cable and DHLabs 75 coaxial cable. 2. Solution 2 is a desktop (mac pro or PC) with Lynx AES16 sound card outputing coaxial into the speakers. Same DHLabs 75 coaxial cable would be used. It seems from many readings that solution 2 would provide better sound but solution 1 is more convenient as I can eliminate any noise from the living room. Thanks for taking the time to help me.
