1. This would really simplify the whole FLAC to AIFF issue... I downloaded it, but hope someone is still giving out free licences!
 2. Shamsky and Chris, thanks for putting me on the right track. Your quick response is very appreciated.

Right now I am simply using an old Yamaha RX-V480 with 2 Paradigm (Titan) speakers in the same room. Humble set up, but just the beginning. I am planning to move my Denon AVR 1403 to those speakers after I buy a Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD receiver (hopefully next year). That's all I can afford for now as for a Rx/Amp. It will be baby steps for me...

I actually wanted to see (hear) if there would be a noticeable improvement in playing 24/96 sources vs. 16/44 sources, without getting a DAC. Would that be a waste of time given my humble set up or will the DAC be necessary to hear the difference between the two different sources?

Cheers,
 3. Hi Shamsky,

I am a "beginner" audiophile, so pardon the "simple" question:

I'm running iTunes on a Mac. I currently have the audio output of the Mac connected directly to my receiver via RCA jacks. My question is: what does a DAC do that my current configuration does not. I suspect that the use of the DAC is to get a better quality conversion to analogue (rather than the conversion done internally by the Mac), but I just wanted to confirm that this is the case.

Note that my intent is also to acquire 24/96 sources, once I know I have the proper set-up.

Cheers,
