EMU card? I've got an old creative sound blaster live 5.1 with an EMU chip in it, but i cant get the drivers to work in multi channel. isnt that chip very outdated nowadays?

Hi all first post here, so please be gentle :-) I'm looking into building a media server for both music and movies. I understand pretty much any video card will do the job, but the audio is what bothers me. I havent been able to find any reliable information in regards to the audio and what card or mother board to buy for reliable bitstream multichannel output. Ideally i'd like to use the motherboards own DAC and look into upgrading for an external in the future. Can you recommend me some motherboards that will doa decent job bitstreaming thru HDMI or SPDIF? Are there any? If not, are there any decently priced DACs I could get? Thanks in advance.
