  1. Thanks for the help. For item ONE I went to the Sony menus, but the only label I could find was "USB (front port)" or something very similar to that. I couldn't find anything that looked like sda or sda1. Item TWO did clear me up. Toggling between 2/6 channel, allowed me to rip the disk. Next time I'll try the sleep method and see if that works. Thanks Again!! I now have a backup to my Pioneer.
  2. Agreed my Pioneer has been much easier than the Sony.
  3. Thanks for this. Tried it out tonight. The tray opened automatically. Once I ran SACD.cmd though everything went non-responsive. The CMD window stayed open, showed the script line, but no download ever started. At the Sony player, no buttons would work, not play, eject, power. I had to unplug it to reset things. I did verify, it was the execution of the SACD.cmd file that caused the player to lock up. Prior to that, you could still eject the disc etc.. Thanks, for the continued assistance.
  4. I'm not actually getting any error. When i start the SACD.cmd file, it opens a cmd window stays there for 10 -20 seconds and then closes. I'll try the telnet method either tonight or tomorrow and report back. Thanks, I've never actually used the telnet before.
  5. Still looking for any help or advice on this issue. Thanks.
  6. Well, I started to get excited because I found the same situation with the firmware update and provisioning server status. However, after running the update the tray still doesn't open. The provisioning server status connection does show success now. EDIT: What does happen now: upon inserting the usb drive, the light blinks, so he drive is being read and the screen on the player then shows 0 0 0 0 . I don't recall seeing this before the update but not 100% sure of that. Either way, the tray still doesn't open and I can't rip the disk. So still in the same situation. Thanks for posting though.
  7. Looking for a little help getting the Sony BDP S590 running. I currently rip with a Pioneer BDP-80FD and have no issues. I bought a S590 as a backup player and just trying to get it set up and working once before putting it away for safe keeping. Here is how far I've got Sony player networks setup with a static IP. static IP loaded into the SACD.cmd on my Windows 10 machine. USB drive prepared. Clean FAT format. Autoscript folder containing 3 files copied over. AutoScript AuotScript.TSS sacd_extract_160 Both AutoScript files modified using telnetd instead of inetd per Dick's writeup on page 111 of this thread. I have tried it both ways. Started the S590 with the USB drive installed and also tried starting then inserting the USB. The drive is read (light blinks). It shows up in the menu of the S590. It doesn't appear as though the script runs and the tray never opens. I can navigate to the USB drive with the remote and see the "Autoscript" folder. Of course opening the tray, inserting the disk, and then running the SACD.cmd file does nothing. Any thoughts on why the autoscript file is not running on the S590? There are instructions about using putty, and telnet. I didn't have to do this with the Pioneer and after looking at the instructions by ted_b on page 2 of this thread, I"m not clear on what that should be doing or if it's actually necessary. the Pioneer did not require accessing the player using telnet. It speaks of an Autoscript folder for the USB drive with 2 files instead of 3 and also talks about the player having rolling text ABCDEFGHIJK on the player/tv screen, and I've never seen that happen on either player. No idea if this has anything to do with my issues. Thanks in advance for any help.
  8. I'll give the Dune a try this weekend. Imagining it will functionally be fine, probably better than the Pioneer solution. I'd still like to figure a way to do it through Plex. I've checked all the settings and when I force it to "directly play" (no transcoding), the Shield drops out. Everyone I've spoke with (via forms) says it "should" work, but there is nothing in print that says specifically a multi-channel flac will work.
  9. I'm hoping for some advice on the easiest way (given my current setup) to stream multi-channel high res music. I currently Have an unRaid media server, running Plex, and MiniDLNA applications. My Audio processing is by a Marantz AV 7702mkii My primary streamer is an nVidea Shield I also have a Pioneer BluRay player that can stream via DLNA. Everything playing these files is on a hard wired gigabit network. No wifi in the mix. I have a collection of 2 and multi-channel high res-music (flac) files. The two channel will play fine via the shield without trans-coding of any kind. However, the multi-channel it wants to transcode to AAC, and of course too much is lost in that conversion. If I force direct play, it tries, but either doesn't start showing forward progress on the bar OR it plays but breaks up during playback. I am told Plex should pass this file just fine, but was also told the Shield should be passing it fine so not sure where the real problem is. This all came from the Plex member forums on their site. So if there are any suggestions on how to get Plex / Shield combo to play these files, that would be a first choice. A second would be a Plex client in some compact form that will pass full bit rate 1080P, with DTS-HD, True-HD, and stand alone stereo / multi-channel flac. I did have a run with a couple mini-pc's like the NUC. At the time I was having other issues (since solved) that I was thinking was compatibility issue with the mini-pc's. Trying one of those might be an option too, if anyone can confirm it should pass all of those files without transcoding. I'd rather not spend that kind of money just to "try" unless there was some first hand knowledge it would be a solution. My third choice was to use the DLNA capabilities in the Marantz processor. However, as best as I can figure, it won't support multi-channel flac files, as I get an invalid format error when trying to play them. I've tried using a multi-channel DSF, but it doesn't seem like MiniDLNA will share those for streaming. The currently used process is the Pioneer BluRay player to access via DLNA, and this does actually work functionally. At least I know the files are good, and the DLNA program is good. However, the interface is slow, cumbersome and a PITA to use. Obviously I'm looking for some other option to make this work. I can go with flac, or DSF, but want a lossless format one way or the other to be passed bit-stream to the Marantz processor. I can share via Plex, or MiniDLNA. I'd actually like to find another DLNA program that runs on unRAID but thus far haven't turned up anything. MiniDLNA works, but gets temperamental and has to be re-started sometimes to be visible. The files are on an NTFS network shared drive so that is a viable means of access. I do have an older Dune D1 and was thinking I might be able to access the shared drive that way. I THINK it would play so that might be next on my list. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

    Platinum Notes

Has anyone ever used Platnium Notes? Does it really work or make a difference in the sound quality of an MP3 or flac ripped from a CD? If this really does work a better explanation would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any thoughts good or bad. http://www.platinumnotes.com/
  11. Is there a list of all the Sony player models that work? I saw the S590 in the front of this thread and have seen BX59 in on recent post. How many are there?
  12. I currently have a Pioneer BDP-80FD player. If you were getting a 2nd player as a backup for ripping SACD's only with no other intended use, which would you get knowing it may sit on a shelf but if you needed it you want some life left in it: A sony BDP-S590 used <$100 Another BDP-80FD new ~ $230-250 A used Oppo BP-103 $300-400 Just looking for other's thoughts. One of mine is I could pick up two of the sony's put them in the closet and still not spend as much as the other options.
  13. What is the difference between an Oppo 103 and 103D? Does the 103D work for ripping?
  14. Does anyone know about the future of this effort? Is anyone working on how to do this with a newer generation of technology? I've been a successful user of a Pioneer BPD-80FD for well over a year now (maybe 2). I've had no issues have started to grow a real SACD collection since I found out it was feasible . Am I correct that none of the players this works on are still made? I think I bought one of the last rounds of the 80FD that were still new. The only things I use the player for are ripping SACD's and playing 6 channel rips across the network (I can't get Plex to play mult-channel right). However, in the back of my mind, nothing electronic lasts forever. The ability to rip SACD's is important enough to me I'm starting to think about picking up another Pioneer or one of the Sony players used just to hold as a backup. Does anyone keep a backup player, just in case? I'd gladly pay for the software to make this work if it were updated, and imagine most of us would.
