  1. Thanks. Must have been operator error. Got up this morning and tried it all again and now it works. Not doing anything different than yesterday. Maybe having all devices powered off then on again this morning did it. Sounds better now going through my 2Qute DAC.
  2. I decided to go forward with something so I can start trying and experimenting. Got the Sonos Connect and had a question on it. From a few above posts I thought I'd connect the Sonos to my 2Qute DAC via either the Coax or the Optical cable. However when I use either the Coax or the Optical cable, I hear nothing. But when I run the Sonos RCA out directly to my preamp, then I get the music. I'd really like to use my DAC. Any idea why things don't work when I use the Coax or optical cable? Thanks again. And BTW, the Sonos setup, while semi involved, was easy and worked well. --I was kind of surprised. I now can stream Spotify (via either the Spotify app or Sonos app) via my wireless router and control it all from my iPhone. That is pretty cool for a non techy guy like me who's used to loading single CD's into my PS Audio Transport. SQ isn't the same but I'm hoping that will change a little once I get my DAC in the mix.
  3. Thanks! That helps. Think there's much difference in the SQ of the above mentioned solutions?
  4. Here's what I've got: PS Audio PerfectWave transport Chord 2Qute DAC Modwright SWL 9.0SE Preamp Butler 2250 Amp Modified Maggies (by Peter Gunn) What I'd like to do is stream from a service such as Spotify. --I mention Spotify as I currently use them to stream music to my iphone when I'm out and about and I've just heard they will soon be streaming in lossless. I know little about streaming and after reading through a few threads, don't feel like I know much more about it. I hope this isn't a sign of my older brain. I currently receive quite fast internet service via a cable modem and then a router that provides ethernet cables that run to various rooms in my house. The question: What do I need to buy that will plug into one of those ethernet cables and take the streaming Spotify data and feed it to my preamp? Is there such a thing? And let me state now, I understand the audio quality will be less than what I'm currently used to but that will be OK for the amount of time/type of listening that will occur while streaming. And the emphasis here is simplicity: one device that does this, not a bunch of things with a bunch of connectors ....or building something myself (not doable). Is there anything out there that fits this description or is my question semi-nonsensical and reflect my inadequate understanding of the concept of streaming? Thanks and I apologize ahead of time for such a broad question.
  5. So I'm pretty new to some of these things so let me ask about the cable connector adapter you mention below. You went from the PS Audio S/PDIF (balanced XLR) to the DAC's BNC connector using an adapter on the transport end. Is adapting dissimilar connectors via these cable end adapters a common practice? Does it involve a decrease in signal quality? And if we're talking using a cable end adapter (which I'm completely unfamiliar with), can you go from the PS Audio S/PDIF (balanced XLR) output to the USB input on the Chord 2Qute? Is there an adapter for that?
  6. Thanks for your help. As I'm coming from a two channel environment that's only involved CD players (nothing stored on a computer), I'm a neophyte to some of the concepts you probably take for granted. So let me ask what may be some extremely rudimentary questions. My premise in getting the PS Audio memory transport was to 1) provide a better transport and better way to accurately pull data off the CD and 2) use a dedicated DAC instead of the one built into the CP player. ....So what your suggesting is use the PS Audio memory transport to rip the CD's, store the info on a PC and then play them back via a USB connection from the PC to the 2Qute? This seems quite do-able but my question is will the above process involving a PC provide a data stream "as clean" as the one that would come in real time from the PS Audio memory transport, delivered directly to the DAC? The PS Audio site seems to imply their memory transport is the "uber" device that provides the most accurate way to read CD's and that the additional manipulation involved in storing that CD data somewhere else (ie a PC) and the then reading the data at a later time will inject a slight amount of degradation that wouldn't be present if a DAC was directly connected to the PS Audio transport?
  7. After much deliberation I've decided on a 2Qute DAC and have located a used one in good shape. My transport is a PS Audio Perfectwave. I didn't think much about the compatibility of these two units until just now, when I'm about to buy the 2Qute. ....Here's the issue: The PS Audio transport output options are (in order of quality according to the company), I2S, S/PDIF via balanced XLR, Coax via RCA and the optical. The 2Qute's inputs options are: USB, BNC Coax and TOSLink optical. Here's my question: From my reading it seems the 2Qute does much better with a USB input. Some go so far as to say if they had to use only the coax input on the 2Qute, they wouldn't want this DAC. While separately the PS Audio transport and 2Qute are great, combining them forces you to use the coax connections which, on both units, are sub optimal. ....So you have two units that are pretty descent on their own and them combine them and have to use the least SQ optimal output/input. Am I looking at this correctly? Is this combination self defeating? Kind of bummed as I was getting myself pretty sold on the 2Qute. Thanks. --My speakers, amp and preamp are Magnepan 1.7's, Butler TDB 2250 and a Modwright.
