  1. Hi John, Thanks, you've been a great help! You should write a book BR, Edward.
  2. According to Computer Audiophile - The Complete Guide To HiFi UPnP / DLNA Network Audio I think what I'm actually after is a HiFi Media Renderer. Question is, can such a device be streamed to from a phone/tablet etc ( and without a media server in between )? If so, what are some OE/Yocto packages you'd recommend? BR, Edward
  3. Thanks, appreciate the answer. This is my first serious audio project since my run with ECC82s and 12AX7 front-ends so networked audio is a learning curve. In a nutshell I'm after a networked audio sink that most devices will connect with via an app or something. I totally understand the server concept with MPD but as far as my research showed that with DLNA I 'might' be able to do a straight forward audio sink ( not so much a server ) e.g. like streaming a mp3/mp4 off your phone to your stereo/TV. I spent the last few weeks messing around with ROONs embedded RAAT stuff, it built and worked really well but of course I'm tied to using ROON. So in summary I'm after the same feel that RAAT provides - a networked audio sink that listens for a connection and plays out to the connected hardware, but built using open source code. Thoughts? BR, Edward
  4. Hello, Having recently inherited a Chord DAC I'd like to put together a DLNA type speaker. An Embedded Linux Engineer by trade I'm a little in the dark as the way to go in getting an embedded DLNA audio sink to work. Having experiment with MPD it's not really what I'm after. As a test setup I have VLC supposedly streaming audio ( only ) to my board running minidlna. On the VLC side it appears to stream but no audio is outputted from the board. If any one could help answer a few questions, I'd appreciate it. 1) In general, VLC will actually stream straight audio to a DLNA speaker? Any better clients available? 2) On the embedded end, can minidlna pass the audio straight to ALSA or Pulseaudio locally? If so how? Minidlna has no mention of audio sinks in it's config. 3) Regarding using minidlna to create a DLNA speaker is this the best way to go? Regards, Edward.
