  1. First off - if there's another thread that already covers this, please kindly share and I will close this one down - I don't want to be repetitive. I have a decent PC rig that I built last year. I have no dedicated sound card, and that's the nature of my question/this post: Is it worthwhile to use a standalone sound card over audio found in a high-end GPU? The GPU in question is a GTX 970. It's connected via HDMI to a Sony STRDN1030 receiver with Pioneer SP-BS/C22-LR Andrew Jones Bookshelf speakers and SW-8MK2 Sub. 6 days a week I work on my MacBook pro while listening to music and running any windows-only software on my PC. I purchased the above audio equipment because I wanted something better than the Logitech 2.1 I had been using. I have some FLACs, but for the most part I'm streaming music at 192 kbit/s. A few nights a week I'll fool around with Fallout 4 or GTA V, soon Battlefield I, but I'm most interested in improving the music quality. I should add that I have a DacMagic 2.0 xs that I used to use when I worked at a desk, but it's not currently being used in this setup as I didn't think it would help (but I haven't really tested it either).
