  1. confirmed for moode 6.7 running on RPi3 + Kali + Piano DAC 2.1
  2. @zackthedog i have explored them. The ones like volumio, moodeplayer, etc that run on a raspberry pi have a nice mobile interface but do not output a clean USB signal. daphile is the first thing i see that approximates what I am looking for. Thank you sedest. I did know it had conversion and resampling on the fly. Only thing is, I cannot run my room eq (acourate) But it states it has its own. So I'll have to start trying it. Thank you all. I prob won't be responding to further replies since I'll b deep in Daphile.
  3. I am not interested in changing the os. Foobar2000 plays my hi res files . I have a third party USB card with a separate linear ps. The issue is controlling the pc from a smartphone. With a friendly ui. I guess this does not exist
  4. @davide256 thank you for your input but your comment is not relevant. Stability is not the issue. The issue is a remote ui on a phone that allows deep control of the pc - power on,off, output device selection, (USB, coax, hdmi) and music service mngment as well as playing music, playlist mngmt, etc. and please don't say 'use Remote Desktop, VNC, etc' those services rely on a windows desktop ui which is designed for a screen and keyboard. i would prefer a 'sonos-like' ui. Or something like linn' kazoo.
  5. So why even use a pc to play music? ?That's not the topic of this thread so if your comment is in that direction, take it elsewhere. My solution is to use windows 10 and have foobar2000 set to auto start on boot. I use monkeymote to control foobar. USB output to a DAC->preamp->amps. Everything is set to turn on in sequence using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Furman-M-8S-Power-Sequencer-Outlets/dp/B00KGI7BY4 The amps are turned on when a 12v wall wart plugged in to the sequencer turns on triggerring the amps on. So all I do is flip a switch and everything is ready to go in 1 minute. Then I hit the pc power button. I dont like using sleep mode or hibernation because then I have to use another piece of software to wake it up. monkeymote doesnt do this. I could set the bios to autoboot I suppose. I am thinking of adding a belkin wemo to turn on the conditioner/sequencer. But the point of this question is how to get the whole chain to start remotely. easily.
  6. has anyone compared these active speakers to the majic 140 made by linn driven by the exakt amp? or let me rephrase, has anyone recently heard both the linn dsp and the devialet?
  7. There was a fabulous review that was just posted on this speaker and I am puzzled by the remark that 'the bass of this speaker does not sound like anything you've heard from a box speaker'. Since there is nowhere near me to audition the phantom, can anyone add some detail to illustrate what mitchco said.
  8. Thanks for your replying. Unfortunately I just have a nas and only fire up my pc w foobar2000 when I want to listen in my main room. I'd rather not have another pc w jriver running.
  9. I listen to a fair amount of hi res music (not that hi res is always significantly better but the mastering of these recordings is often more careful and not overdriven) Although I have a system capable of resolving the differences of hi res and mp3 (maggies, sanders amps, schitt dac and preamp) I also want to listen to my collection in the kitchen. Casually. So I am looking for an easy to control sonos-like system. Not just a casual network player for music from hi res formats - I could build a raspberry pi with volumio for that. But I do not want to have to switch on amps, dacs, preamps just to have music in the background while I cook, eat, read, talk, etc. The devialet phantom seems to have everything (at a stiff price). Another solution would be a bluesound node with a pair of powered speakers (audioengine or jbl 7 series). Controlling everything from an app would be the goal (or even an alexa skill) Has anyopne gone down this road and care to share their solution?
  10. I found this album in two places: PCM In Summer | HDtracks - The World's Greatest-Sounding Music Downloads DSD https://challengejazz.nativedsd.com/albums/in-summer The images of the album jackets are the same. So I wonder, was it a PCM recording that was simply recoded to DSD?
  11. In foobar2000 Preferences -> Output is a dropwown that gives myriad choices. For any given DAC there are: DS: Speakers (name of DAC) DSD: WASAPI(push):Speakers (name of DAC) DSD: WASAPI(event):Speakers (name of DAC) WASAPI(event):Speakers (name of DAC) WASAPI(push):Speakers (name of DAC) Which of these drivers is best to use and does anyone have a link explaining the differences in English? So for example, I installed the drivers for the Spring HoloDAC and the Yggy and the dropdown menu is what I see. In addition to drivers for the named DAC there are also a few generic entries related to the native audio (high definition audio device speakers, high definition audio device headphones) - these are prob for DirectSound output. Finally there are entries : ASIO: ASIO for USB device ASIO: HoloAudio ASIO Driver DSD: ASIO: ASIO for USB device DSD: ASIO: HoloAudio ASIO Driver I would guess these entries are the ASIO versions of the WASAPI drivers above, just not enumerated into 'push' and 'event' - whatever that difference means.
  12. I thought foobabar could rip sacd with the dsdMate plugin?
  13. Thank you Franz. But please note Eksil, this is not accessible from within moode.
