  1. there are many weird quirks with this device and it looks like Sony stopped updating it...i used to drag and drop and almost always throws a device not found in the middle of the transfer..now i only use HAP transfer on a PC ...as far as turning off, there's a setting in the HAP transfer to increase the time before it sleeps..it should never turn off while moving files over (at least in my experience using the HAP util, I have transferred over many many days without it turning off)
  2. about 1 TB of files i was tweaking since the new year...it's been a good week straight and now down to 1TB left in a 7TB system..and yes..even mp3s sound good
  3. that's gotta be HELL..this thing is SLOW AS MOLASSES IN A BLIZZARD...once the files are on there...it's faster to delete them and reup..what i have learned is spend the time to completely tag them before transfer and then use the HAP transfer util...it will still take forever to transfer and even after..the unit still spins and catalogs ...so many folders are empty until it's done spinning...i found a KILLER tagger for the PC called "bliss"...it walks through them according to rules you set...i use it just to make sure all the folder have a cover to display..i then use tag and rename to tweak...just transferred a TB or so (40000) files...took almost a week!
  4. i have this too...you're gonna dig it...i usually record both .wav and DSD just to be sure..i would change the cart...i ended up with the at440mlb ...direct replacement...much better than the stock one https://www.audio-technica.com/en-gb/at440mlb
  5. it's because your drives are good (mine are now and the hap works flawlessly as before). unfortunately there's no easy driver for ext4 format drives in mac osx like a pc, so you cannot direct copy and you'll find that using a gigabit wired system (which I use) is not much faster...looks like they recently updated hap transfer for mac. it does seems a little faster than drag and drop. as far as faster using ext4 on a pc, it is, but it is useless if when you reconnect the drive, it cannot recatalog
  6. funny you say that..using gigabit isn't really much faster...if you look 1 message up, I had this nightmare where the external 4tb portable drive developed errors (it was 1/4 full) and i ended up getting a new 5tb external portable. Now you ask, how to get the old to the new...well ext2fs is a free ext4 mounter for win that will let you copy direct. So in about 2 hours I was able to copy 99.9% of the drive and the couple of corrupted files I left off. (So the sequence is, dismount bad drive on the hap, add new drive, format and dismount the new drive, bring it to win, mount using ext2fs, copy the files using usb 3 for fastest and then remount on the hap and it'll respond that it's new and recatalog) HOWEVER, the HAP totally sucks, it recataloged and hung at the exact place (20%) on the new drive! Then I deleted a bunch of stuff and still just hung in the same place. Totally frustrating experience. So it seems the only way it works for me, was to reformat new drive on the HAP, let it add as a new drive and then via GB network copy the files using HAP transfer. It took 72+ hours to copy the 1.2TB out, but it worked and yes, interminably, arduously slllllloooowwwwwww. My thought it is may dislike the portable drive and want a externally powered 5.25", but I am done experimenting. Not sure what experiences others have had, this forum kinda died....
  7. i was trying to rescan my external hd using the hap menu and it hangs at 20% consistently. i don't think it's a bad hd, it's there a trick to force a rescan? i guess 1 option is disconnect and hook up to a linux box, i think its ext4, anybody have a suggestion for a quick tool to scan for errors? reason i am rescanning, i think somehow to db is corrupt, my player does actually play any song (and this happened just after i copied some files out via pc drag and drop) it just keeps skipping each track and it doesn't matter if they are external or internal files...anybody else have this happen to them?
  8. you were correct and thanks! "(standby for the transfer (unanalyzed audio content remains)"
  9. Anybody know why there's a "?" mark on the main menu screen? It should show file number, but must be stuck on a file or files. Would be nice to fix...i have a 2TB SSD as the internal and 4TB as an external. All files are tagged before copying over...
  10. i use img burn and blank dvds and just burn th iso you ripped, for mastering you have to get a little creative and get on the net to find the tools, super author (ca. 2004) is what I use
  11. yeah 3gb of mp3 to external in 3 hours, not normal, but yes patience, thanks for the pep talk
  12. oh and i forgot this one...yeah it's just blazing fast on a gigabit network 2 hours now for 3GB of files
  13. Final weirdness...So I thought these files were in the database..it's about 240GB of lossless ALAC (.m4a) files from a custom IPOD, now it's showing up as unrecognizable files...I then renamed the folder (via network) and then just recreated it and copied just 1 of the folders over (via network) and it's fine! no changes..very wonky
  14. other weirdness? External 5tb drive formatted on HAP (ext4) Tried to speed up copying by using EXT2FS on a Winbox, files copying quickly, but when I tried to recatalog with differences..it would get to 20% and hang (like even overnight) I tired then to just recatalog whole drive and it came up with an error "can't complete" I figured I had to just reformat and try again, so I took drive off and backed the whole file structure to ntfs (about 900GB), THEN, put the drive back on the hap, deleted the folder I tried to copy over direct (50GB) and just recopied it via network (while drive was attached) and it worked fine. What gives with this crapola linux OS??
  15. Having weird issues, does anyone know what the "?" means in the top right corner ?
