  1. It is indeed for me to decide ... as it is only the opinion of my two ears. But as Jud explained (and he appears to be much more knowledgeable than me about the history and technical nuance of upsampling), it doesn't seem to be about "adding/changing something that's not there in the first place" but rather processing and relaying the best sounding*/most accurate signal to the DAC. My DAC seems to like working with DSD more so than PCM. *Of course "best sounding" is completely individually subjective and a matter of taste. But A+'s DSD processing did not sound as clear and spacious as that of Jriver's on my system. My ears just like the taste of Jriver more.
  2. Thanks so much! Alas, Jriver's DSD'ing sounds better than A+ to my ears.
  3. Hey all. Newbie here with a similar question about A+. I've been trying out Jriver and A+ to determine my preference with regards to sound quality, functionality, etc. But I am not able to perform DSD upsampling in A+ (the option is greyed out). This is odd because I'm able to output to DSD128 in Jriver (which sounds great!). I'm trying to figure out why A+ doesn't even allow this option, whereas Jriver allows for seamless DSD128 output to my DAC. My lineage is a new 2016 MacBook Air < A+ < USB < McIntosh C52. I've attached some screenshots for clarity. I'll note that the C52 should be capable of DSD256, and the pic of my audio-midi settings represents the maximum sample rate/bit depth available. Also, no other audio device options are listed under A+ preferences--only core audio and McIntosh HD USB. Lastly, I don't have any actual DSD files in my library. Only lossless files (flac/wav/aiff/m4a) and hi-res files (aiff/wav/flac). If anyone could shed some light on this for me, it would be very much appreciated.
