  6. This evening has time for some romance & nostalgia from Sergei Bortkiewicz (1877-1952) Piano Sonata No 2 Opus 60. If you love Rachmaninov and Tchaikovski, i can recommend this under-valued master piece. I discovered it on the radio early morning going to work by bike. That night I bought the HiRes Hyperion album by Nadejda Vlaeva (96-24). Unfortunately I can't recommend this album as the recording quality has some flaws in my opinion. Looking for info on the recording I also found some comments on this recording by Jeremy Nicholas from Gramophone. But no tears, there is another album by Nadejda Vlaeva that you can buy on Qobuz. This is a better recording in my opinion. I also found a third recording of sonata no 2 Opus 60 by Klaas Trapman, a fellow Dutchman. His recordings are sold at www.muziekweb.nl. And there are more Dutch connections. Bortkiewicz has had a Dutch friend Hugo van Dalen who supported Bortkiewicz mentally and financially during many difficult years in Germany, Russian and finally Vienna. The Dutch Music Institute ('Nederlands Muziek instituut') still has letters from Hugo by Sergei. very much recommended, Bortkiewicz piano sonata no 2 Op 60, a forgotten master piece.
  7. I would like to introduce myself to this Thread with this excellent play of this romantic and very russian Concerto for violin and orchestra in D Major Op. 35 from Tschaikovski. Wow, it is played with so much passion and tempo by Susanna Yoko Henkel and the Duisburger Philharmonic by Jonathan Darlington. It made me forget that time was passing by. I can also recommend you to watch her playing this concerto on you tube. A skilled violist and charming performance by her and the Orchestra. 5 Stars :-) for me, highly recommended. It is available at hiresaudio com [24-192].
