Naim is Hifi highest end and superior to most of the brands mentioned on this entire forum 4. This alone would require u to support their protocol like Damien does and certainly not them - how dare u? Bryston, McIntosh, Accuphase, all of them and potentially others have to make nice for HQPlayer? Is it so damn difficult to implement UPnP support side by side with your own protocol? Chris

So, I have tried to put M2Tech Hiface USB to SPDIF Converter in between the PC and the Naim. This is working -> HQP through WASAPI but it doesn't sound good and I am doubling up the DACs as the NDX2 has got a DAC built in. LAN with only Roon sounds better. LAN with only Audirvana sounds better. Is there another trick I can use to make HQP detect the Naim NDX2 over LAN?

Again, Audirvana finds the Naim player on the network, HQPlayer does not. IS this because HQPlayer can't or because of another reason? There is no USB-connection between PC/Mac and the player of course.

After using the search function with no success I am asking: I have both Audirvana 3.5 and HQP 4 installed on a MacMini, which is connected through LAN. I have a Naim NDX Streamer, also connected through LAN. Audirvana finds my NDX2 as a UNPNP - network streamer / player and I can play music through LAN. HQPlayer4 doesn't find anything. Is this correct or intended, because streamers would require to have HQPlayer NAA installed? Thanks, Chris

@Miska: I find it very interesting and cool that a lot of people change filters per type or style of music. I am using Roon as a frontend and going into HQP because I find it more appealing and comfortable just by its secondary features. I know from testing in my setup that HQ Player standalone sounds better to me. Either way, I have to logon to my Windows 2016 machine from MS Remote desktop to change settings. No issue with that as long as I find one setting for all - which I learn from this thread is a compromise. In particular because I listen to all kinds of music from Metal to Classic. Having said that and given the tendency of people around here to adjust settings to musical styles, would it be possible to implement a tag/setting per album or even per song that would tell HQP which filter to choose on the fly? That would be a nice feature. Don't know if it has been mentioned or discussed before and sorry if so. Chris

I am and have been converting all PCM to DSD 128 in both settings. PCM conversion has more punch, SDM conversion has more detail in my setup if that answers your question. And closed-form-16m sounds even better than "poly-sinc-xtr-2s" - again - in my setup.

Boy, closed-form-16M, ASDM7, 48kx128 is possible on my MacMini and slightly beats the same setup with poly-sinc-xtr-2s. There are some cracks indicating that the CPU is totally pitched out but the sound quality, oh my god! It is strange though, if I run my standard setup with "poly-sinc-xtr-2s" and just switch by the pull down menu to "closed -form-16m" and restart the same song it sounds less impressiv than if I change to "closed-form-16m" in the settings. "Closed-form-16m" also does not accept the 48kx128 and shows 5.6448M as a result while "poly-sinc-xtr-2s" shows 6.144M. However, surely tricking my own mind, if I setup "closed-form-16m" correctly to what it seems to ask which is 44k x 128 I get less good results than by leaving it on 48k x 128. What the heck? HQP is so cool. I love it. Chris

Hi, It is easier with GUI, isn't it? It is a very good idea to have an image but it will work all the way. I found this for you: "With AO 2.20B5 when answering YES to Roon Support the Media Support is added - no need for the media pack from MS." I cannot remember this error message that you got on my machine, I only had troubles with the network setup as mentioned before. Did you also replace the shell with Roon? I am 100% sure Phil will be able to help you quickly and if it takes some time for him to answer in here then send him a message through his webpage. It should be easy to solve. Good luck, Chris

Ok, here are my actions that worked in this order and right after first boot of Win2016: in tool local network policies change to "privat" AND "user can change" Set fixed IP, Gateway and DNS Set Computer network name Reboot Check if router / switch can see Windows 2016 Check remote access to Windows 2016 with Microsoft remote desktop from any machine If you use BootCamp, do it know and install latest drivers Reboot Check for Windows 2016 updates and install Check for unknown devices and de-activate them Reboot Remote management will be enabled now I have then set my remote share and tested access through the network (upload/download) Install RoonServer64bit Check remote access to Windows 2016 again Try to connect Roon Remote to Roon Server (will not work) Install AO 2.2 with Roon Server support Reboot Licence AO 2.2 by starting ST tool Disable write caching on SSD Disable power saving on LAN Adapter Reboot Run Roon AO ultimate with safe settings Test SMB connection to share again Probe Roon Remote: it finds Roon Core on Server Enable auto logon in AO service tool Reboot Roon Remote will find Roon Core on Server automatically I have protocoled each and every step of also other tools (HQP, Windows Commander ...) so that I can replicate my installation anytime and do not need 2-3 days again. Some might not be relevant and I do not care. It works. With the hassle, trust me, I feel for you! 2012 had been a walk in the park in comparison. I have then started to use more aggressiv settings in AO. Connection never lost. I then tested all AO possible settings and combinations and never lost connection. Just for the record, the following AO settings I have left ON: Roon Support HPET WASAPI USB Opt Intel WMI With that I have Roon remote, MS remote desktop and SMB working. Chris

Frederick, it is different with 2016 than with 2012. I wrote myself a complete installation manual if I have to do it but I don't have access right now. So what you have is exactly what I had: Roon can see the core and gets stuck in "initializing". You must edit the network policies in 2016, otherwise it won't work. There are several things to do in order to make 2016 see your private network as private as it is set as "public" per default. This is the key. Without this it won't work and it is not sufficient to allow for remote connection and/or toggling DHCP and fixed IP - it got to be a fixed IP anyway. With 2016 Core it is of course a bit more tricky and work to change policies (powershell), but I have also noted the required commands somewhere. It is basically all available from the internet if you know what you are looking for. Chris

I can totally agree with you in latest brain research findings. As far as science nows there is much more to discover then we ever thought and music is a total experience, not only with your ears. We know, that even deaf people can experience music with their bodies. That is all common sense by now. Your words help understanding different options and controversial discussions on how hardware "sounds", especially loudspeakers and certain tweaks: What we believe about this and that is anything but the "truth" but it is all about ourselves, a total reflection of the way we are as each and every individual. That is the true reason why people get emotional about this stuff, it touches their personality. Producers goal is to find out commonalities amongst the majority of all customers and their customers to expand their customer base: If many people like it, it is good, it can be sold. But at the same moment it is not true with regards to "this is also the best sound of all" because there are many other music enthusiasts who will not agree. I am also into Computer stuff in general. If someone has a technical problem as something isn't working quite the way it should be according to specs, then there is a clear technical solution to be found. Can be exhausting, but from a complexity level it is a trivial task: Find the one who solved the problem, probe his solution and be happy. That does not at all apply to the quality of sound reproduction: In music and the Computer-Audio cross over all non-strictly-technical issues are down to personal taste and that makes this forum so entertaining and fun.
