  1. Not sure if this is the right forum or if this is the right place to post this, but what the heck. My laptop is running Windows 8.1 and my desktop Windows 10 On my desktop i have an integrated Realtek on my motherboard. My laptop is an Alienware 17 R3 and has Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di sound card. Both of the following scenarios is for live audio. When my microphone (3.5mm) is plugged into the desktop, the sound is very quiet and boosting it in the properties creates a lot of noise. Going through the Realtek software and activating all the "enhancements" does next to nothing at clearing up the sound or boosting the volume without quality loss. When the same microphone is plugged into the Alienware laptop the sound is the exact same as when plugged into the desktop, but when i go through the software for the sound card and turn on the enhancements (notice the lack of quotations), the sound clears right up, volume is the same, but at least there is no background noise or static. I've used voice meeter banana to try and clean up the audio on the desktop, but it doesn't compare to what the Alienware software is capable of. Here's my questions: 1. Is there a real difference between the hardware of both these sound cards/integrated cards or is it the software that makes the difference? 2. If i wanted to get the same quality on my desktop, is there a software that i can download or buy to clear up the quality of the sound or should i get a good sound card? Thank you very much.
